I can tell you that I am a professional in this field. Diversity and Inclusion is what I do. A) there are no quotas. There are guidelines that compare the makeup of your organization to the population you serve. The goal is to have a similar demographic makeup. Therein lies the problem. You don't care, and you're uninformed. Societal norms tell you that men prefer to work with things and women prefer to work with people...but it's not true. It's a bias, a stigma, a stereotype- and it keeps these groups out of these fields.

What this is saying is if they have one spot open and two equally qualified candidates- they will then look at these other factors. Essentially its a tie breaker. I think you are confusing the goal. The goal isn't equality- it's equity. Sticking to an everyone is equal mentality means that some get left behind- because reality is not everyone is born to equal life circumstances.

Let me put it another way. If it's your sister's birthday and I give her a gift - are you "screwed" because you didn't get a gift on her birthday? Or, for example - Child A is tall, Child B is not. Child A can reach the sink easily, Child B cannot reach the sink because he/she is too short. Would it be "screwing" Child A to give Child B a stool? No it wouldn't. Child A's ability to reach the sink doesn't change.

To be fair, women are highly underrepresented in STEM. Giving them a foot in the door doesnt hinder men in the STEM field, it just gives women a chance to boost their representation and level the playing field.

It's not discrimination. It's giving a leg up to those who have been pushed down in society. - thus giving them a fair chance.
