What does 5-years-from-now you want? Is he in the same place as current you? Will he wish you had gotten it together 5 years ago? Willpower is bogus. Only discipline gets you through the tough stuff. If you absolutely can't avoid eating crap, then plan it in. I personally do this. All day I eat nothing but protein and fat. It depletes the muscles of glycogen. Then I lift when I get home from work, further depleting glycogen. Eventually, when you run out of glycogen in your muscle and liver, you …

Building muscle and cutting fat at the same time can work. If you don't believe it, then look at meatheals.com, carnivore diet or zero carb, and look into Dr. Shawn Baker. Thousands of people are doing this with great results. To do this, just eat meat (and other natural animal products) and stay on top of your electrolytes and drink water. Cut out everything else. Eat until full. That's it. You don't have to cycle anything, you don't have to do some stupid elaborate program, no supplements, you…

Someone else already mentioned the carnivore diet, but I endorse it as well. Look it up at meatheals.com. Amazing results and healing multiple ailments. You can't outwork a bad diet. Personally, I care more about aesthetics. That's my preference. I grew doing sports and working on farms, I've got some base strength already, just not the visible muscle. Again, it's all preference. I've been doing a Push, Pull, Legs routine. Also, I personally go very slowly. 3-5 seconds up and down. Works the mus…

These aren't necessarily RP, but they might help: It's Your Call by Gary Barkalow Living The Life You Were Meant To Live by Tom Paterson The Art of Work by Jeff Goins Let Your Life Speak by Parker Palmer The Road Back To You by Ian Morgan Cron There are probably others out there, but this is a good start. Honestly, no one method or book will get you there. You'll have to take the parts that work best for you and intuitively sound like the right direction for you. Then combine them and look for t…

Paul Coughin. Unleashing Courageous Faith - he talks about how men have lost their fire, their courage to really live. Men have lost their overall drive and what essentially makes them men. He discusses how to get it back. No More Christian Nice Guy - roughly the Christian version of NMMNG. He talks about the difference between being a nice guy and being a good man. I loved both and highly recommend both. He has written a few other books with titles like Raising Bullyproof Kids; No More Jellyfis…

This was going to be my recommendation as well. Great fit. Sleeves make biceps look great. Heathered, so it looks a little better than solid color. Extremely soft and slightly stretchy so it moves with you. I've been switching all of my t-shirts to these. I regret nothing.

That's a good way to put it. We've been trained our entire lives to be the servants only. Now if we would see ourselves as kings.

I don't even buy cards anymore. I can write better things than any card could have in it. I write a letter or note instead. Do exactly what TTB said. Screw with her with everything you write. I recently did this for my wife's birthday. Everything was a double entendre or I mixed it up every other sentence so that one sentence was really sweet and the next flat out talked about sex or her body. Take her emotions on a rollercoaster. Or, just come right out and say what you're thinking. For example…

Yeah, I've read both books and follow MMM. Not that I have his frugality, but I appreciate his stuff. What I get from those books is to do what you're good at, but use it in a way that serves your passion.

Totally agree with working for yourself. I'm in the same boat with not knowing what I would love doing, but there seems to be some good guidance here so far. If I find some magic formula, I'll let you know.

I'm in a similar position - in education. Important work in many ways, but unappreciated.

Completely agree on doing something interesting. If people love what they do they also seem to get paid more from what I've seen.

Thanks! This gives me a great place to start.

Coding was exactly what I was considering. I recently found out our county had free access to Treehouse. I'm not afraid of tech stuff. What language(s) would you recommend? Is there one that would be best to start with? Or is there a particular area of development that would be a good starting place?

I second this.

"Jack of all trades, master of none. But oft times better than master of one." This is where the idea of the T-shaped man comes in. Go deep in one topic, but stay curious and keep learning widely so you never stagnate. Every once in a while you'll deep dive again and create another leg of the T, but the point is to never stagnate.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
