How to save face during a divorce? When you say "they" - who do you mean? Your STBXW and her father? Or "they" as in a Realtor and an appraiser? | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/06/21 07:41 PM
How to save face during a divorce?Instead of guessing on figures, you could get a Realtor to give you an estimate for listing, order an appraisal (3+ comparables), and order an inspection (to avoid surprises during the process of a sale). That'll give you (both) a much more realistic value on the house. Subtract your existing mortgage, divide by two, and present that to your STBXW as the buyout. If she and her dad can't afford it, move forward with the sale. It's hard to argue with real numbers in front of you. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/06/21 05:36 PM
Men who have children and who are (getting) divorced, what would you need to see in a potential partner for her to be a more serious prospect to you? This inadvertently got lengthy, but I hope that it's helpful to you - I don't think that your situation is a disadvantage at all, in fact I have had significantly better experiences in dating women who had not been married and/or had not had children. With those who have had children, I've felt that they have overstepped their bounds, and at times have been judgmental of my parenting. | 6 | Is this verbal abuse?Look, everyone is a victim in a divorce, and everyone is "justified" for ending a marriage. Everyone wants to make the act of divorce (legal divorce) this big emotional finger pointing session in front of their lawyers, the court, etc. The cold, hard fact, is that the whole goal is division of marital assets and dissolution of the legal bond. I think you (jointly) risk annoying a judge, and wasting tons of money in lawyers fees by bringing this emotional stuff to the table. Just keep it complete… | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/21 05:56 PM
wife is ruining me financially. i need adviceI can't even imagine, man. I'm so sorry. The child support and alimony numbers don't necessarily surprise me - they're not that far out of line with my own experience, percentage-wise. The additional rent payment on top of it, though? Is that court-mandated? Does it have an expiration upon final decree (like, is this alimony pendente lite)? How long are they mandating alimony post-divorce? In my state it was customary to do 1 year of alimony for every 3 years of marriage. In my case, it was assu… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/02/21 06:27 PM
wife begging me to stayBe certain and decisive before you go down this path, not ambivalent. A couple books to check out during your discernment process: “Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay” by Mira Kirshenbaum “Taking Space” by Robert Buchicchio “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck” by Mark Manson And maybe “Hold Me Tight” by Dr. Sue Johnson I wish you the best, man. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/10/19 02:41 AM
