Lefty RPW checking in. The principles I’ve learned in this sub have absolutely helped me with dating and now in my marriage. There is some advice here I haven’t totally taken on for myself — for example, I have tattoos — but the foundational principles of self-improvement, femininity, and simply being a giving and warm wife to my husband are HUGE for me and have really helped me get what I want from life. It’s such a refreshing departure from the husband-bashing and complaining I often hear.

I'm pretty politically left, and it sounds like this isn't just leftism -- it's immaturity along with the influence of our current polarized political climate and "outrage culture". I have conservative friends and family members who have been sucked into the same kind of behavior, posting constantly just to dunk on "libtards". When it comes to those people in my life, right or left, I "unfollow" or "mute" their feeds on social media (and honestly I've been spending very little time on social med…

There’s a big difference between being a neurosurgeon and being a housewife (with no husband/family yet?). I don’t know how old you are or honestly how “RPW” this is, but it’s good to have goals and interests beyond marriage/family, especially when you’re younger and potentially years away from being married. Financially supporting yourself is important so you can be in a position to choose a truly amazing mate rather than just settling quickly because you’re dependent. When I first met my husba…

If you don't have that natural respect/attraction/admiration for him, you're only setting yourself up for failure. It's one thing to be in a relationship for years, past the "honeymoon stage", and have to put in effort and work to keep the spark alive. It's another thing, in my opinion, if you never had that "carnal attraction" to begin with.

Hi Odd_Pixie! Weight loss: The only way to lose weight is to consume less energy (calories) than you burn. You can either eat less, exercise more, or a combination of both. Most people have the most success with weight loss focusing on diet. I highly recommend calorie tracking, at least for a few weeks until you really understand what you're consuming. You'll find yourself motivated to make small changes once you realize that certain foods are super calorie dense. In general, focusing on fresh v…

Some things that make me feel top-notch: - Getting my nails done (I've grown mine out and keep them almond shaped, and get gel manicures) - Intermittent fasting whenever I need to drop 5lbs gained on vacation, or give my body a chance to have a break from being stuffed. For me this just means skipping breakfast and not snacking after dinner. I'm a big fan. - Carefully and lovingly making myself a perfect cup of coffee with freshly ground beans :) - Reading inspiring books - Occasionally saying n…

Oh interesting! Yeah so far the only seasonal part I've noticed has been talk of snow and cold weather in one of the January entries. I flipped through and there are brief mentions of symbolism of spring and fall, and also a bunch of Christmas stuff in December. It doesn't feel to me like it relies too heavily on seasonal symbolism, but it's mentioned. There's plenty of other content that has nothing to do with seasons, so you might still enjoy it and find it worthwhile.

Be comfortable with giving him space -- don't be codependent and let his bad moods bother you too much. He's a human and he needs to be allowed to feel things sometimes without worrying about bringing someone else down. Don't get frustrated or sad yourself. Just be cheerful and kind and supportive. If he wants to talk about it, listen. You can ask him some questions just to get him talking. Don't try to fix his problems or give advice, just listen and boost his ego. If he doesn't feel like talki…

This winter I've purchased a few key pieces in a soft merino wool -- fitted turtlenecks in soft colors, leggings, calf-height socks. Uniqlo has some good wool (or "heattech" fabric) pieces that are pretty affordable. I feel feminine and warm in a soft merino turtleneck, high-waisted skirt, merino wool tights, and chelsea ankle boots. Add a pretty wool peacoat and a warm hat/scarf, and you're good to go. You can also look into fleece-lined leggings/tights, I just prefer the feel of merino wool on…

I don’t think your lack of relationship success can be blamed on how quickly you sleep with a man. You say with the first guy you had sex within a month of dating, I don’t feel like that’s too crazy if exclusivity is established at that point. Yes, the ONS seems like a mistake, but that is more of a one-time thing rather than an ongoing pattern. If you don’t want to have ONS, you just need to think about it and set some boundaries for yourself. Prevent yourself from being in tempting situations,…

This is a red flag in my book. Even if he were to break up with his girlfriend to get back together with you, what's to stop him from giving attention to other women the second he's going through difficulties with you? I agree with another comment here that this is a sign of weakness / poor character and in your shoes I would probably lose respect for him (at least deep down).

I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound healthy. I'm all about commitment and even moving relatively quickly when you know it's right (husband and I married after 1.5 years of dating). But neediness is not a good look, especially this early on. The subtle guilt tripping when you are busy doing homework is a red flag IMO. I dated a man like this in my past and it turned toxic after some time. The intense emotions were enticing at the beginning but it soon devolved into emotional manipulation and codepe…

To be honest, I always raise an eyebrow when I hear that a woman has been introduced to RP by their SO (especially very early on in a relationship). There are men who read TRP and use the principles to "game the system", which isn't inherently wrong, but I'd tread carefully in attempting a relationship with these kinds of men. I also believe there are many men who use TRP as a crutch for their anger or insecurity towards women. I don't have any other context for your relationship, but the fact t…

I weigh 150lbs at 5'10" and wear a size 8, so by no means am I super skinny. Jeans can be super cute, just make sure they fit you properly in the waist/butt area. Saggy denim butt is not sexy. I like higher-waisted cuts with my top slightly tucked in the front like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/429671620689540106/ Even a plain T-shirt can look awesome if it fits well and is tucked into a great pair of jeans. I like skinny jeans most of the time, but I have a pair of wide-leg cropped jeans …

I'm 5'10" and have been self-conscious about my height for most of my life. I used to slouch a lot and I would NEVER wear shoes with any type of heel. The older I get the less it seems to matter. Now, I regularly go out with my husband in heels that make me slightly taller than him. He finds it super sexy because they make my legs/butt look great and they give me a confident presence. I think back when we were dating he made some jokes about being attracted to tall women because he always wanted…

I'm totally the same way with working out. I've tried doing YouTube workouts or open gym memberships but I really struggle with consistency. There's this author/podcaster named Gretchen Rubin and she talks about different personality types as needing different methods to achieve goals. The one I identify with is the "Obliger", which is strongly motivated by outside rules and accountability. With that in mind, a few months ago I found an accountability buddy and we agree on set times to go to wor…

I don't have any great tips but I just wanted to say it sounds like you're headed in a good direction! Cutting out toxic relationships and working on improving yourself are great steps to take. I hope you enjoy the fitness classes. I don't think you should worry too much about not capitalizing on your beauty when you were younger. It seems like you are working way too much and your marriage is going downhill because of it. You say you can't make your finances work without your second job, but it seems you can't make your marriage work with your second job. So think about your priorities and values. IMO marriage is precious and shouldn't be taken for granted. Yours is being damaged at the moment and that damage won't be trivial to fix later on. If you don't want your marriage to "age and fizzle" you just need to quit one o…

For whatever it's worth, I remember feeling that way in relationships when I was your age. I'm a few years older now and married and those thoughts don't cross my mind at all. I'm inclined to believe it's increased maturity and experience rather than the specific man I'm married to. Not saying you're immature -- I'm certainly not the pinnacle of wisdom at 25 -- but I think it's pretty normal to feel that exploratory urge when you're just barely turning the corner into adulthood.

Yep! I dated and am now married to a very busy man. He works really hard and it's one of the things that attracted me to him. For the past few years, his schedule has been 2-3 weeks traveling, 3-5 days off, repeat. His schedule just changed to more like 4 days traveling, 2 days off. We both came into the relationship on the same page as far as honoring our individual lives, friends, and hobbies. We both had histories of unhealthy codependent relationships (family and romantic) and neither of us …

This gets talked about all the time in this sub (it's where I got the idea), but my #1 splurge on myself is having my nails done. I spend $50 every 3 weeks to have a mani with hard gel overlay (to help me maintain my shape and length). I've been keeping it up about 6 months and it's honestly been life-changing -- I used to be a nail-biter with stubby nails and torn-up cuticles, now I get compliments all the time from strangers and everything I do feels automatically prettier and more graceful. It's great that you have a process down and you are proactively going on dates! But yes, it seems like you should think about lightening things up a bit. I don't think your problem is you won't kiss on a first date. That's pretty normal IMO. spend some time conversing about the important stuff; what they are looking for, ambitions, marriage, kids, red flags I wouldn't go into these topics on a first date. First dates are to meet someone, have fun, see if there's any chemistry, laugh and joke and…

Have you guys talked about marriage much? What is his attitude about it? Not going to lie, 5.5 years without a proposal or at least a timeline for marriage is a little concerning, but maybe I need more context here. 27 is still fairly young to be finding a husband! It sounds like you're talking about things like groceries and gas etc? To me, they shouldn't fall into the category of "your" allowance, they're household expenses. Maybe it would help if you started tracking how much you're spending on that stuff, since you're the one doing the spending. I know you say sometimes it can range, but try to think of an average per month. Maybe $100 a week on groceries = $400 a month. For things like vet bills, try to spread out the cost. Let's say you take the dog …

Hey, I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you! To be brief, I married a guy when I was 20. There was religious influence and family pressure involved. The relationship wasn't ever functional from the moment we started dating -- he was VERY controlling, never satisfied with me, criticized me and others constantly, acted lazy and entitled. While we were engaged, I "tried" several times to break up with him but he would cry, yell, promise to be better, and manipulate me into staying wi…

Given your age there are real concerns that you will reach a point where you have matured and he has not and the marriage will end in divorce. Please consider this in a very real way, OP. I married at 20 and divorced at 22 so this issue is very personal to me. <3

Red flags all over this post for me. He doesn't sound like Captain material at all. I guarantee women his age wouldn't put up with this BS. You are only putting up with it because you are so young. Trust me, I understand where you're coming from. The crap I put up with in relationships at your age makes me cringe today, and I'm only 25. I'm all for getting married young, but if you were my daughter I would beg you to hold off on getting married to this guy for at least another couple of years.

You're right, they are super different. Honestly, even though I'm on RPW a lot, I would be wary of any guy who frequents TRP. The concept of "taking the red pill" extends to far more than just sex/gender issues. It has to do with accepting harsh truths that may go against the dominant narrative of current society. It's about accepting reality and making choices to give yourself the best advantage you can to get the outcome you want. I might love eating doughnuts and being lazy, and modern societ…

Oh I'm so sorry. I know exactly what it feels like to live in denial like that, to spend years justifying to yourself that you're "doing things right" so it has to get better. When it finally breaks down it is so painful, and I'm sorry you're experiencing that now. It sounds like this breakdown has been inevitable for a long time, so the good news is that you got out before wasting your whole life. Now you can be free to go through this pain, grow, and move on. Hey, this sounds tough. But to me this sounds like a slump, not cause for divorce. You're free to do what you want of course, and I think there are a lot of people out there who would encourage you to leave a situation like this, but in my opinion, chances are you won't be any happier after divorce. Keep in mind I have very little context here, but here's my advice. Could it be you are worrying too much about his problems? This is what I do, too. I'm always stocked with basics (baking stuff, rice, oats, condiments, spices), but when it comes to week-to-week grocery shopping, I make a meal plan and shop for strictly the ingredients. I make my list while I'm at home so I can check to see what I have or if I need to replenish any needed basics. It works way better for me than just shopping for things I think I could probably make meals out of. Since I started meal planning I've wasted so much less food, I've bought l…

Yep, thanks for bringing up this topic. I have a lot of thoughts on it. I think it can be a yellow flag that can go either way. In my life I have two examples of men who had absent dads, and went through personally struggles related to that, but ultimately used that experience to fuel their efforts to be better men/husbands/fathers. It comes down to the individual's personality and values and whether they are willing and able to do the personal work required to process crappy experiences and tra…

Aww this is so exciting! How far away does he live? Hey it sounds like you are way ahead of many 22-year-olds in terms of self awareness. You've gone through some tough experiences but they have given you a better idea of what you want and what a healthy relationship looks like. You can't repair damage that's already been done from bleach, the best you can do is baby it so it doesn't break off, until the damaged parts grow out entirely and you can cut them off. Honestly, if your goal is long lush hair I would lay off the bleach entirely from here on out. I used to have all-over bleach blonde hair, and I've also had balayage highlights. A few years ago, I decided to stop bleaching and grow my hair out, so I dyed the bleached parts with a demi color to match my natural co…

I can't comment on who's "in the wrong" here since there's only so much context you can get across in a reddit post, but blaming probably isn't productive anyway (unless your husband is legitimately abusive). I use a very small amount on my problem areas only, and I've found that my one-month bottle has lasted two months. It's tough finding the balance between determining compatibility and being too picky. Ideally you want to properly vet someone before getting into a relationship with them, but then once you've committed, you want to be all-in without looking for problems or worrying about "falling out of love". I'd suggest doing some soul searching and trying to figure out where your personality naturally falls on the spectrum. Are you perhaps too agreeable, trusting, naive? It's not about "making someone want to be with you", it's about the joy and satisfaction of pleasing your partner. For example, my fiance knows I really appreciate foot rubs and he enjoys making me feel loved, so he rubs my feet when we watch TV even though we all know touching possibly sweaty possibly calloused feet isn't the most pleasant thing ever. When a good partner earns your total and complete trust and respect, it's easy to make sacrifices and go above and beyond to show them you love t…

First, keep following your passion and work hard (but also maintain work/life balance). Work out any lingering issues you have (go to therapy if you haven't yet). Make female friends by either cultivating your existing relationships (maybe it's okay if they're basic, you don't have to have everything in common with someone to share their company and enjoy activities together) or seeking out clubs, groups, sports, or workout classes to meet other women. Create the kind of life on your own that fu…

Nope. Those would be big ol' red flags for me. Besides the way he made you feel, I imagine you want to be with someone you'd be proud to introduce to friends and family. My ideal man has a more quiet confidence, a strong and steady presence, not spouting off inflammatory buzzwords to near-strangers like he's got something to prove. I'd move on to the next date.

Oh man, this is good to know. Maybe I'll hire a trainer or instructor for the first little while just to get the hang of it. Thank you!

Awesome! I'm a javascript dev (mostly react these days), feel free to message me if you ever have questions or get stuck on a tricky problem :)

This month: + Run a marathon (this will be my third one) + Plan dinners each week and stick to the plan (no midweek grocery store trips!), and try at least one new recipe per week + Start lifting weights after I'm done with my race. I want to purchase a barbell and rack to use at home and start doing squats and deadlifts. (tips are welcome, I've done a fair amount of research but I'm a total newbie to lifting) + Stay on top of my cleaning schedule (I just put everything into the app OurHome last…

My fiance travels for work frequently and I'm the same way, I find it much easier to take care of myself and stay on top of household tasks when he's around. Moving is so stressful. You got this! Things will calm down, shake out, and settle in soon. You are brave for making such a huge change and I'm sure it will be well worth it. :)

I was raised Mormon as well and I saw this being retweeted by eeeeeveryone in my circles, even the women I thought were pretty conservative! It doesn't even make any sense! Also, I just have to say -- "For those who don't know me" is such a Mormon thing to say, I love it :')

Absolutely! You said more clearly in two sentences what I was trying to say in a giant paragraph. :)

"He said he won't do it again" -- this sounds like a pretty weak resolution. Maybe you're just summarizing and there's more to the story? I hesitate to make a judgement call like this based on a few short anonymous comments, but it sounds like you're just dragging him around here. If he was truly invested in your relationship, he would have been forthcoming about his actions of getting drunk at his ex's, realized it was inappropriate even if he ended up there in an innocent way, and resolved on …

I think it's somewhat normal to look at your exes' social media pages out of curiosity. My first thought is maybe he was using incognito mode to avoid accidentally clicking "like" or something. But then you said he told you he did it specifically to hide it from you. Hmm. Still though, I would say you're overreacting if it was just that. But him getting drunk at his ex's house and hiding it from you is _much_ more concerning. It doesn't seem like your boyfriend was very honest with you about wha…

Thank you for reading my reply and for saying that! Of course, things aren't all perfect all the time, but I do love my life a lot and I try to be an advocate for nuance in this current super divisive political climate. My conservative friends/family side-eye my atheism and "alternative" appearance and politics, my liberal/feminist friends side-eye my handgun ownership and my conformity to traditional gender roles 🤷 A few months ago, I literally had a friend tell me to dump my boyfriend just bec…

I agree with the other commenter who said "there's plenty of other options between artsy hipster dudes and MAGA wearing frat boys". I also noticed the "RP is anti-feminist" comment, which is true (see sidebar), but you're certainly allowed to be a nuanced person and apply RP relationship/dating principles to your life as they work for you. It's okay to live in the in-betweens sometimes. In many ways, I don't fit the standard RPW mold: I work full-time and currently make a higher salary than my f…
