It's quite time consuming to manage multiple girls in parallel. And girls aren't that stupid. You may lose your main one if you still do this after you've been dating for awhile. Your dating market value is what gives you confidence. It's correlated with the number of prospects running at the same, but it isn't that exactly. It's your appearance, your career, your character, etc. Develop yourself in those aspects instead of playing games.

Just don't be naive. Be strategic about it. What you describe is the end goal. What I'm describing is the process for getting there. There are many pitfalls along the way. You have to be extremely lucky to directly arrive at the destination without walking the path to get there. Luck is not a strategy.

Totally agree that emotional attachment usually has detrimental effects. Indeed, forcing a romantic fantasy never works. Neediness in life, not only in dating, comes from lack of options.
