I was thinking yesterday that I’d love to hear more from men who have transitioned from being women just for the fact they have the unique perspective of living inside both experiences. I feel voices like yours will hopefully contribute to a mending and increased mutual understanding so we can all support each other.

Men’s Mental Health issues effects everyone though it has been and continues to not be taken as seriously as it should. From suicide rates to what we are seeing with recent statistics showing high rates of males being survivors of domestic abuse. Don’t forget that June is also a time to advocate for Men’s Mental Health (as well as the other 11 months).

Interesting that you cited GOT as it was Emilia Clarke who I had in mind when stating actresses standing up for themselves. You pointed to some good examples there that I agree with. Apparently Clarke went with the nude scenes in the beginning but grew uncomfortable with the frequency of nudes scenes as the seasons progressed. I appreciate the female form, but a lot of the nudity in that series was gratuitous as it was just T&A for the sake of T&A without serving story or character building. App…

I think actresses are standing up for themselves and asserting what they do and do not feel comfortable with. While increased male nudity does feel subversive as it’s “flipping the script” of what has historically been the trend.

The field is approximately 75% female dominated so it makes sense that an anti patriarchal activist lens frequently influences theory as well as therapy. I’ve talked with so many men who have been shamed by their female therapists for men’s issues from impotence, intimacy, self assertion, and socializing. It’s a real problem.

It seems to me that any movement that identifies as being oppressed at any time has experienced trauma as a result of their oppression. So there are two extremes that I see happen: 1.) development of an altruistic philosophy, 2.) expressions of rage. I concur. There is a difference between advocating for what we as humans need to be healed and become the best versions of ourselves v. tangentializing into hating on others. That is a toxic feeling of empowerment that takes us away from the focus here.
