I'm a circumcised woman and frankly, I don't see the big deal on circumcision as it is done in Muslim society. It doesn't make me less of a woman for having it done and it also doesn't really benefit me either but it happened and I don't really think about it. I probably won't be having my child circumcised when the time comes, but I feel that informed parents can/should be able make that decision for their child without backlash from strangers telling them its wrong.

This is not true- female genital mutilation ranges in degrees of severity, even the ritualistic piercing, which removes nothing physically, is considered female genital mutilation. The idea that nothing is lost is a blatant lie- no mechanism has ever been suggested for how the removal of sensitive and functional tissue could not cause a decrease of sensation. MGM is done to limit and control sexual pleasure, it is a violation, I don’t care what you are comfortable with- they are the same.

Who on earth said he did? He is something of an authority on these things, however. Nobody knows who introduced it- though it seems to have come from ancient Egypt, where it was practiced on monastics, probably as an alternative to castration. The myth in the Torah or Old Testament is that Abraham performed circumcisions, on himself as well as his son as a blood sacrifice to god. Circumcision is as bad as female genital mutilation. The removal of the prepuce in infants is done for religious and cultural reasons, with an aim to decreasing sexual pleasure. It is morally equivalent weather done to males or females, why would it not be?

I just don't think the foreskin is anything vital. The foreskin is not an extra toe- and is functional. The earlobes are not vial, may I cut those off of my infant? The prepuce is not vital on females either, why is cutting it off of them not okay?

But the tonsils are only removed for medical reasons. Not pre-emptively, obviously in the rare cases when it has to be removed it’s fine- but there are usually other methods- steroid creams, stretching, less invasive surgery to loosen it. I’ve known people who this hasn’t worked for and they decided to get a circumcision rather, and they like it. But they’re in the minority and that was their choice.
