This is SUCH a great point. So often women are so concerned about being vetted that we forget that WE should also be vetting and discerning if this is a suitable spouse.

ZERO. I come from a very blue collar Italian-American family and my husband comes from an upper class Irish-German Catholic family, both families are EXTREMELY traditional… this would NEVER fly in either of our families. To the point that if my husband ever touched a hair on my head his own brothers and father would handle him. A real man doesn’t have to “correct his wife.”

I could not agree more with this. My husband has EARNED my submission by being a traditionally masculine man.

I think that there’s a lot of truth in this. It’ll definitely give me something to think about :-)

I never said that his mom’s diagnosis wasn’t enough. It just happened to be on top of some other life stressors. I suppose the point I was trying to make is that I think OP is correct that women lose respect for their partners if they cry often and can’t handle their emotions on a regular basis. However, I disagree that women lose respect for their partners if they show emotion or are vulnerable with them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Can you give an example?

That’s really sad for you. What type of women are you emotionally attracted to, and what kind of things do you show emotion for?

lol. I would lose respect if my husband broke down in tears often or if it was because he regularly wasn’t able to handle his emotions… especially if he didn’t have traditional masculine traits to balance it out. But my husband sobbed in my arms a few months ago after his mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness on top of some other major stressors. I didn’t lose an ounce of respect for him. In fact, it made me love him more.

If I loved my husband I could not handle repeated infidelity and would need to leave. If I went into a marriage with more of a “business relationship” mentality I think I would be just fine and would stay.

If this happened in America you need to report that social worker. She is a dolt if that’s the advice she gave you. Abusers get MORE abusive, not less. He raped you- and told you (in his own words) that is how he punished you. You deserve much better. ❤️

I see my husband in a wondrous and miraculous way. He is the best man I know, and I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of good ones. If that sounds like I’m objectifying him I’m clearly not articulating things clearly.

That’s a fair question! 🙃 I suppose my answer has a bit of nuance to it. Admiration is defined as having an object of esteem and a sense of ‘wonder’ in a miraculous way. Appreciation, on the other hand, is defined as recognizing the full worth of something. From my personal experience, my husband is happiest when he feels admired by me, while I am happiest when I feel appreciated by him.

Yes, but I believe that for a woman, respect feels akin to being loved and appreciated. I imagine that for men, being respected feels more like admiration.

Yes, those traits help us feel safe. More importantly, they contribute to our overall sense of security in a relationship. I believe these traits also foster respect, which I’ve heard is vital for a man’s happiness in a relationship.

As a woman, this is the answer. You can have whatever hobbies you like, listen to whatever you want… but true masculinity is in leadership, resilience, courage, self-control, trustworthiness and having sound judgement. Those are the internal traits women want.

You have a kind, yet direct conversation about each of your expectations and goals. Obviously this isn’t a first date question but before you are engaged you’ve got to have the uncomfortable conversations. My husband and I are Catholic and in order to be married in The Church you have to go through pre-Cana. It’s amazing how much people don’t talk about beforehand. I think this is one of the reasons my husband and I have a happy marriage. If my children don’t get married in the Catholic Church w…

What if we make a list on what defines a low-value man. Mine would be if he belittles you and doesn’t respect you as a person. This includes being dishonest and being a hypocrite. There are (and are going to be more) predator men who hide behind the facade of being red-pilled and traditional but they are nothing but frauds who want to prey on women they find to be unquestionably submissive. It’s a problem.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
