Some people are asexual. As Jordan Peterson mentions, some people will invent their own hierarchy and climb it and succeed. If one is getting more joy from haiku readings over sex, then life is grand and gender issues become as relevant as a litter box.

...some people here are spending 12 hours a day behind a screen. The best option is to limit internet use for an hour a day, and experience life out there.

The best thing to do is limit internet time for about an hour a day, and get on with life. People can easily brainwash themselves into any ideology if their situated in front of screen for the majority of their day. It's an unfortunate situation that so many young people are completely dissociated from life out there.

Here's the real issue. People without power, or authority, or some sense of accomplishment, are going online to find a sense of validation. 20-30 years ago, where if shit hit the fan... if you don't have a job, or you get dumped, ....you move on. You cope, and you find a solution. Maybe the solution is, "I need to invest more time in understanding these concepts, so I can do a better job at work." Maybe the solution is, "I should invest in friends and join in some sort of organization to have co…

Honestly, this becomes less of an issue if you invest in yourself, invest in your friends, get some type of 5-year plan, and work toward your goals.

Right, but here's the issue with projecting reality from a poll,... a voluntary poll. Magazine polls first of all are only going to attract people who read that magazine (a skewed demographic). And secondly, the specific kind of magazine consumers taking these polls are typically those interested in the topic, and swing to the far side of an issue (either all in or all out). Why bother taking a poll on a moot issue. If I were to ask people the importance of God's role in their sex life ... and I…

If a dude (that you hardly knew) approached you and said "you have beautiful eyes," imagine how quickly that would change the dynamic of future interactions, and how you would approach or avoid this individual. You might say that's an unfair example, as it's a guy. Yes, but's it's someone you're not necessarily attracted to, who just hit on you, out of nowhere.

My brother had a friend like this, and the guy seemed to have some self-esteem issues; something was very off. I imagine the women he was with similarly had self-esteem issues. This was a person engaged in this frequently, not like a one time thing. A grounded person will usually date someone they have known for a while-- via classes, same community, same church, friends of friends. They know each other's social circles and backgrounds; so, the whole scenario of a ONS is simply not attractive fo…

Get off OLD, invest in yourself, and go to a place where there's a higher ratio of women to men.

Honestly, I think you'll find a bigger gap between extroverts and introverts, than introverted women and introverted men. Most people from my community growing up didn't approach strangers, they just knew people for a long time and hung out among the same social circles, and maybe after years or months asked someone out on a date. So would I approach someone I did not know.... no, probably not, unless they had some type of injury and needed assistance. In this sense, I'm simply a tribal person w…

I can't tell you what the formula is, however looking at some of my peers who chose the marriage option (now in their late 30s), they definitely have common traits. All of the them, guy or girl, had a strong sense of identity by the time they were 18-22. By this, I mean, most of these people could tell you by 20 what they wanted to do with their life, and where they saw themselves in five years (and simultaneously they were working hard or studying to move toward that direction). They weren't wa…

Yeah, I've never done the OLD. It was sketchy in the late 90s and that's where my mindset is to this day. There's a lot of interesting people out in the real world. I met my partner through my previous job, unintentionally. We we're both teacher trainers, and enjoy the minimalist lifestyle and living overseas. We are both western nerds who studied an Asian language, and have similar backgrounds. We laugh a lot. I get the impression that people are getting cult-like with aesthetics and gender on …

I've never dated online via social media or through apps, so I'm not really aware of this situation. Seems better to just go out and meet people, and appreciate the friends you have.

Maybe have him shadow a Clint Eastwood-type neighbor or uncle or cousin. If the issue is social skills, maybe he might need an outlet for male bonding before navigating the world of dating. I would have to find out more specifics. Someone spending their life behind a screen is going to have a different set of challenges then someone who is an atheist in a town full of Christians.

I don't know what constitutes your version of ugly. For me, I enjoy getting to know people long-term in group situations before entering the realm of dating. Their essence, their behavior, their interaction with others, are going to be far more powerful assessment elements then gelled hair or a certain nose or whatever is hip these days.

A lot of this can be avoided if people skip online and app dating, and get to know someone for several months before engaging intimately. I don't think I ever feared a guy for this new wave interest in "n count" .... honestly never heard of this until entering the sub. When I was in college and high school, it was simply common sense to avoid someone who was sleeping around-- most people knew who was sleeping around.

Every guy I've dated, I've known for at least 3 to 6 months prior. I suspect it's a process of slowly getting to know these people in the context of a group. This was pretty much standard when I was in college. As humans in general are terrible predictors of causation, I can't identify the initial tipping point or foundation of attraction.

I worked in a restaurant a couple years back (in my early 30s) and managed a bunch of high schoolers in dishwashing and serving. They really didn't seem that different from when I was a high schooler in the late 90s. The biggest difference however were their peers who didn't have an after-school activity, sport, or part-time job, and that can change the whole dynamic of socialization. If people hated school in the 90s to the point of outright rebellion, they dropped out and got a job, or just se…
