I said that these people buy these devices to display their financial fitness, and that is clearly the case. If people purchase iphones because they feel that they are part of the "wealthy" group then that only confirms what I said, not denies it. 0	Rings are a waste of money I am not arguing whether smartphones are useful. iPhones are Veblen goods similar to products of Rolls Royce, Rolex, Gucci, and so on. I myself have an iPhone, I don't see why you would bring up the fact you don't own one. iPhones aren't bought because they are great devices. 4	Rings are a waste of money The whole point of a ring is wasting money, actually. A ring is a form of conspicuous consumption. When women weren't in the labor market, a man purchases rings for himself and his woman in order to show that he can take the financial hit of that particular purchase.
