No I mean the scientific studies they often reference in the fields of anthropology, evolutionary biology, etc.. this is often not the case in journals of sociology since it is assumed the subjects are human by default.

All scientific research is dehumanizing. It reduces people to humans. Humans are the colloquial term for homo sapiens and its necessary to appropriately identify species in this area.

Male and female are the appropriate terms for scientific literature. I think the terms are more or less interchangeable and shouldn't cause any missed shifts in conversation.
