They need only be aware that you're capable of extremes. They need to hold witness that there is no limit to your capacity for anger and harm. If they see that, they're less likely to cross you. You haven't threatened them which is a turn off, but they understand that consequences will be necessarily be dire. It's a passive kind of fear.

I loved Seinfeld. But, look at it this way: I could tell the truth and float from short-term contract to short-term contract, doing my best to distinguish myself, and getting nowhere, or... shrug I get paid more than ever before, and have opportunities. That never happened when I was honest. Not sure why I should care beyond that. Can you point to a reason? No, it was a real company. I warmed up to people working on projects. Talked with them on their lunch, got details about what they were doing. Show interest, and people will talk forever. Then, when applying for my current job, I sold their work as my own. My references were people in the previous company, but since there is so much turnover, it's hard for them to remember who did what.
