There's no end to red flags. Experience can turn almost anything into red flags. Willingness to do therapy together to learn and improve: green flag. Willingness to sit at the table and agree on a prenuptial that protects each of you: green flag. As an aside, accepting loss is hard. Jobs, patents, etc... they change us. Life happens. If a would-be spouse cannot be available/ present for her loss or yours, that's big red future monkey brancher. Might be the one red flag I see now: how loss is han…

Sounds like Camile Paglia's writing. Otherwise not sure. She's a good read: a feminist who's honest.

Mediation isn't "figure out how to make her happy." Simply counter with what you want - she's got no income, no time commitments that help the children - make it what you want, she can work around that. After that counter maybe middle ground gets found. Can't say how a court will act, but it's going to cost a great deal more to find out.

Narcissistic defense is real - not to excuse it - but damaged people cling to narcissists because they can like a pair of pieces of a shit puzzle. BPDs love Narcs, for example. Not to diagnose or suggest that's what it is, but that's common enough. Healthy people don't stay with unhealthy people, that's the nutshell.

Mine admitted she had a crush - a week later while shopping I saw and knew right away, a guy working at this spot - it just clicked. I knew it was more than a crush instantly, knew there was a lot more and with whom. I thought I was crazy at first, but I casually said "so that guy at ....." and she blushed before getting angry. Yeah. You can just know.

In CT legally separated is the exact same thing as divorce. You'll go through the same process, only not be able to remarry. That's the difference. Your advice is otherwise very good - unfortunately it's not like that in CT. If you file and don't have the plans, they may make them for you.

Personally, I don't think so. I think it's about seeing a good example.

Yeah- show the kids the best you are, not the bitter, not the resentful, or any number of reasonable ways to feel. Show them you do what's decent. She might not be your future as some say, but if you're going to keep being a father show them you respect their mother. You don't need to like her. But show the respect. It's about them, not you, on this one.

If you have kids, send flowers- not red. Show them kindness counts. If you don't have kids, why?

You'd need ironclad boundaries - and contractual backing off them - or it is guaranteed pain rather than just highly probable. I'm looking at the same thing, but my STBX and I are mutually finished with marriage. Can it work? ... I'd say it's less likely than an average marriage.

This is underrated advice. Most important thing you can do for yourself, that anyone can.

This is really the best answer. Have a plan and a pathway for dealing with disputes. Realize you can't predict how either of you will grow or change. Get a lawyer to codify all that you can. Read what McWiffersonMcgee said again. I won't say don't do it, but: Don't do it without a plan. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst: statistics say it will happen.

This is the correct answer. Absolutely. OP: Get the finances protected before offering therapy. There's always a small chance you can help, but not if you're enabling her still. Good luck.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
