I also thought that the experiment design I described could only help detect if there is more bias in women than in men. The experiment can not tell if there is no bias, just if women are less likely to sit next to a man than men. I haven't done any experiments that related to human behavior, so I can't really claim that it's a real scientific study. The subject of this study was not the generic human psychology but rather a very narrow question: do women have a fear of men so strong that they prefer standing on a bus to seating next to a man? I tried to make sure to appear as pleasant as possible (it also probably helped that I'm white) so that the only fear remaining to base the choice on would be gender-related.
