Western military tradition especially in America has deemed short hair to be the standard for what looks professional. It will be a very long time before that changes. Tradition is pretty important in the military. Women have never had a tradition of shaving their head in the military. Do you not realize that it still has a much larger social affect on a women to shave herself bald? A bald dude/a dude with short hair is something you see everyday but is not at all the same with girls.
