Not when it can lead to an abuse of that power imbalance. If you depend on someone for everything and are isolated from support then you quickly become an easy target for abuse.

I'd agree that 8-10 years isn't necessarily that big as long as there isn't a big imbalance in power between the two with regards to everything else.

I've had plenty of friends hook up with people they thought were terrible. It's a one time thing and they never have to listen to him spout whatever nonsense again afterwards. I wouldn't do it but I don't hook up in general.

In most cases? I'd say no. There have been men in the past that I found initially attractive and then learned something about them (i.e.: they're a terrible person) and then no longer found attractive in the slightest. There have also been men that I didn't initially find attractive but became attracted to them over time after I'd learned more about them and gotten to know them.

It's worth it to me because without being comfortable (relaxed), sex can be painful and disappointing - so why risk the "pump and dump" when that's potentially all you'll get out of it?

The more you get to know someone, the more comfortable you can be with them. At least, that's how I am. I'm never comfortable around people at first - regardless of what kind of relationship it is.

Seems to be the same reason many women (including myself) don't want to have sex on the first date(s) - the fear that that was all the other person wanted from them when they wanted more.

Not your stance, the "I'm better because I'm not like other girls" attitude.

Oh, the internalized misogyny of my youth.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
