Horrible. A friend of mine had a retard whit knight father in law who was a former judge. He kept my friend in court for two or three years, one can only assume hoping that my friend would run out of money and not be able to go on. My friend went heavily into debt just in order to keep his kids. The ex checked herself into drug rehab the day after he won custody. By that time, he was hopelessly in debt. But now he has his kids. In the U.S., overseeing postdoctoral researchers is seen as part of their academic responsibility, and as this usually involves the distribution federal or university funds, subject to fairly stringent regulation.
