The only reason I can think of this as beneficial is in the situation where the accused has current custody of the children and the accused is indeed guilty (but remains to be convicted). In that case the children are temporarily removed from the accused's custody. Now, if that is already done, then the law is redundant. But as I understand it if he is accused and there is enough evidence to make him a likely suspect...then all rights to custody are permanently revoked, without receiving a convi…
