Yea, you’re out of my league doesn’t mean “you are awesome”, it means you are acting like you are better than them & they aren’t interested in feeling the way you make them feel. If you are hearing it often... you might want to evaluate how you come across. I’m confident you don’t mean to be that way, I bet you are amazing and are just trying to sell yourself (a great dating strategy) and are just a little off base in your technique. Hang in there girl, you’ll relax & hit the right note soon & f…

Apparently because you’ve never dated an insecure asshole. NEXT.

Thank you for clarifying. This second explanation sounds much more empathetic.

I used to be anti-gossip until I read Friendship: An Exposé by Joseph Epstein. Besides being delightful to read the words of a fellow misanthrope, he argues the value of gossip in bonding and knowing the lay of the land. I never saw it that way before that and now absolutely enjoy a good gossip session. I discovered, when I actively gave up running from gossip and instead poured another coffee & listened, that I learned a lot about the speaker & the old me was a pretty judgmental, lonely bitch.

I’m hoping you meant this more kindly than it came across. I’m sure OP was asking for advice or support and can likely beat herself up about any social skills deficit all by herself. She doesn’t need us for that.

I remember a time in my life when I felt that way. Turns out I just didn’t like those people. I moved & got a different group of friends, just from the move. And surprise: I like just hanging out now. The key difference is a completely different value structure. These groups would never get along. I was stuck in the old group because I just went along with whoever was around me that society said I should like or be friends with as a wife & mom. I didn’t realize that I had just fallen into a grou…

I’m with you, I’d meet them there, or swing by and pick them up, maybe. You’ll all have a better time if you feel like you had your mirror & resources to get ready because you’ll be in a better mood, knowing you look great; better than you might if you had been stuck getting ready somewhere that’s not home, wearing something you didn’t choose. Bonus: you won’t be already sick of them before it even begins. They’re simply trying to stretch out “the experience” complete with extended stories in se…

I dunno, personally I’m pro porn, and we have a circle of pretty “open” friends, so I wouldn’t feel the same in your place... BUT the root issue that he’s continuing something you are not ok with. That would be a problem regardless of the activity: Instagram, or just too much time & money on the golf course. If you can look at it as something you need differently from him, without the confusion of it being related to sexiness and all the red herrings of “you’re just insecure” (cuz that is just a…

It’s ok though, that you don’t want him roughhousing with you. He can do that with dad. Part of learning to be a man - and leaning to be a quality human - is leaning when he can be all out (Dad) and when he needs to be more gentle with mom. It’s powerful to be able to control your power. My children are built like daddy - a ton of bricks. At 5 they could knock me over with a hug. They had to learn to be more gentle with me, with small children, with animals. It wasn’t limiting them, they had to …

You are so not alone. I once had to gain weight to meet the minimum for basic training (Army). Bananas. Every day. Every meal. Omg I never want to smell another banana. But it worked! I gained 15 pounds in something like a month. It’s still my go to when I need extra calories but don’t want to feel gross, helps meet the need but tame the nausea I feel when I overeat. I understand your desire for curves, if only to somehow appease haters. I completely resented Megan Trainor for her skinny-shaming…
