Blocking low effort people- a good thing or a petty thing? To add, I really dislike the classification of people as "low effort," or even worse, "low value." Either you respect other people, and their time and feelings, or you don't. Their are many reasons why someone might come off as "low effort" and it makes a complete world of difference whether someone is just not socially capable - for example - or just doesn't care. Not directed at you personally at you OP, I just wanted to add! | /r/PurplePillDebate | 27/05/20 10:14 AM
Blocking low effort people- a good thing or a petty thing? To start with, the mental health of people you don't know and haven't personally hurt by being an asshole is not your personal responsibility. That said, I think it still makes sense to be mindful of other people. If people are an asshole to you you are within your full right to block them (and you should). The question is what you define as being an asshole - are they actually trying to "use" you for something, or could there be something else (maybe they've got busy lives, personal problems/is… | /r/PurplePillDebate | 27/05/20 10:09 AM
Correction on that "Online Hypergamy" Study posted 5 days agoI'm not a fan of discussing a single study - especially one on something like online dating, which imo is not representative of dating as a whole - as being evidence of anything. It's an addition to the literature on the subject and does not prove or disprove any general point by itself. However, if we're discussing the results of this specific study, has anyone pointed out yet that height did not seem to be a major factor in women's ratings of men? Looking at table 2 I'm seeing significant but … | /r/PurplePillDebate | 24/05/20 12:56 PM
AndrophobiaThat's an interesting question! I'm not a man myself, so I want to preface this saying it's just my opinion from the outside and what I've seen from my brothers. It's a topic that has interested me a lot, because of my brother's experiences, so I have read quite a bit of research and reports, though I'm always skeptical about the scope and who writes them. I'll answer your first question here and in another comment answer the second! Firstly, I think it must have a connection to the fact that th… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 30/04/20 10:57 AM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesSure they do! I didn’t make the term up, you know what it means. I used it to be clear about what I meant, not to deny it exists. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/04/20 06:45 PM
Dear feminists, please stop using TERFs as a scapegoat for everything that’s wrong with your movement while not actually doing anything to fight them. Sincerely, a trans woman.Sorry if my comment is uncalled for b.t.w. I didn't mean to insert myself like this. Let me know if you want me to remove it! | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/04/20 05:25 PM
Dear feminists, please stop using TERFs as a scapegoat for everything that’s wrong with your movement while not actually doing anything to fight them. Sincerely, a trans woman.Misandry exists. Your communities are filled with it and anyone who calls it out gets banned for “tone policing”. This post from r/tumblr is about misandry first and the invalidation of trans men second, so why are the comments full of feminists trying to blame that attitude on GenderCritical? Why do feminists insist on referring to Pinkpillers as TERFs when they very openly and explicitly hate men and rarely mention trans people at all? I think you're right. I'm seeing mostly comments pointing … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/04/20 05:24 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesIntersectionality generally carries other toxic concepts like 'oppressive class', 'whiteness', 'progressive stack', a denial that women can be sexist or that non-white people can be racist and others that are, in my opinion, an artificial edifice created only to rationalize the fact that the movement needed an enemy and they decided that white men (a minority) fit the bill. Hmm. From where I'm standing, it looks more like a part of the movement harbours quite a bit of anger, and probably does vi… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/04/20 05:03 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesThank you for your elaborate and insightful comments! You're confirming what I've heard from my family but in more detail, very interesting insights. Including other demographics as victims. More specifically, and although not stated like this for obvious reasons, to include all demographics except cis- or heterosexual male victims of female perpetrators. This was attempted by the party 'Podemos' a few years ago (I don't remember exactly when). The proposal was rejected mainly because one of the… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/04/20 04:45 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesIt's been 16 years, gives no signs of being repealed. That's not completely true. If I'm to believe my family the debate about the law is still going on. It's also arguably a problem with the inclusivity of the law and the gendered nature, which is why debate and rectification could be better than complete repeal. In this whole debate, we shouldn't forget the fact that gendered violence in Spain was and is a massive problem, and that the law was well-intentioned in it's being gendered (mistakenl… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 11:10 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesOh I'm outright saying that men bore the brunt of the work in advancing human rights. They're the ones who fought and died. These things were determined by violence because that's the only thing that can wrest power from the powerful when you don't have laws and civil liberties to disseminate power. Everything women did they did within such a system - a system built by men, many of whom gave their lives to plant a tree whose shade they would never enjoy. Historically, and up to this day, men hav… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 10:39 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesCould you explain what you mean by the "popular conception of the term"? I'm referring to the dictionary definition of intersectionality: "the complex, cumulative way in which the effects of multiple forms of discrimination (such as racism, sexism, and classism) combine, overlap, or intersect" Which is how I've seen it used pretty much exclusively. source: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/intersectionality I'd have to know what you mean by the popular definition of the term, as I do no… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 10:18 PM
AndrophobiaI like you. If you can wait, I would like to explain where I stand on the gender equality spectrum. Sure! I'm very interested. I came to this subreddit to learn, and at first I was a bit taken aback by the amount of posts ripping on feminism, but I've also encountered some really insightful stuff. So, hit me! Feminists are something different. I'm on Twitter most of the time, so I see a lot of toxic women. Yes, they're very visible on the platform. One woman was even expelled from my old univers… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 08:39 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesWhat about the feminists in Spain who passed the gender violence laws that only punish crimes done against women? They're not feminists? If they call themselves that, sure. I don't agree with them, many other feminists also don't. Not going to argue who the "true" feminists are. No law is inherently feminist. That law is inherently bad though, and should be repealed asap. | 2 | Androphobiasword-fighting a fart I really like that expression! It's true for almost any social movement/set of ideologies/political view though, isn't it? you can always doubt if any feminist statement is shared by the 'majority' of feminists, while at the same time defending any feminist statement you like, or which happens not to be attacked. That's true. That's why you can't defend or refute a statement on the basis of it being "feminist" - that doesn't really mean any specific thing, you have to def… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 08:07 PM
AndrophobiaIf those platforms are used to spread malignant ideas that is very bad. I'm with you on that 100%. I'll do you one better and say that I've seen the articles you're probably talking about, and I've commented/reached out to the author whenever there was the possibility to argue an opposite view. I'm not the only feminist that does that btw, there's a lot of us. I'm just arguing the whole #notallfeminists thing. Because it's true and deserves to be argued when relevant, as is the case when someone… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 07:48 PM
AndrophobiaTBF, men are a group of people sharing the same physical traits but otherwise differ widely between each other. Yes! And they don't even all share exactly the same physical traits. There's so much diversity, it's absurd to generalise. Feminists are a group of people sharing an ideology. And the ideology of "man-loathing" is almost universal. That is simply not true. I've seen the anecdotal evidence. I've read what's on this sub (I'm genuinely interested in the topic), and I'm on reddit a lot bes… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 07:38 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesBeing pro-woman doesn't mean being feminist (unless you definitely don't mind making it unequal by only ever focusing on women and not even caring about unequal laws made in its name). It does not. If you're fighting for rights because you want to achieve equality of the sexes, that makes one feminist. So that's why they're regarded as such. I'm anti-feminist and pro equality. If you've got moral objections on the basis of what certain feminists have done or said, or the etymology of the word fe… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 05:23 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesOkay, you want to get bogged down in technicalities? Because that is how you get bogged down in technicalities. The movement wasn't called the feminist movement then, it didn't have a name yet. As I've mentioned, the movement was a precursor to what was later called the feminist movement and is regarded as being part of it by many historians. Don't be daft, man. If you want to argue that the suffragettes were terrorists then you're on the wrong side of history and behind by the better part of a … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 04:35 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesI did. And this is a case where women's rights and worker's rights intersect. If you had read the sources you'd have seen that the feminist movement and the labour movement worked together in these strikes, and that the feminist labour movement in general was part and parcel in the strikes around the industrial revolution as a whole. The modern feminist movement and the suffragette movement overlapped and originated partially from these strikes as well. | 1 | AndrophobiaHer case for andophobia is wafer-thin, as far as the article goes. Also, there is a total lack of internal logic in the article. How can someone - in the same article - argue that 1) because there is only a small percentage of men that commit the majority of sexual assault, that means implying there is a broader shared responsibility for the cultural environment that facilitates these men is false but that 2) the small percentage of "feminists" that say (emphasis) things that can be construed as… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 04:01 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesYou'd have to read early 20th century news. I'll stick to just the U.S. and the early 20th century, because otherwise there is too much to cover. Here are some introductory sources: The shirtwaist (women’s blouse) factories were notorious for exploiting labor, especially that of immigrant women. They were underpaid, charged for “extras” invented by the management, crowded into unsafe and poorly ventilated structures, searched when leaving the buildings, and often herded through a single exit whi… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 03:44 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesYes! That’s one example. These protests, generally in favour of women’s rights generally, and labour conditions for women more specifically, were met with high rates of police brutality and if I remember correctly sometimes even violence from civilians. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 03:11 PM
Now this is the kind of dialogue we need. It supports my theory that trans people should be the most natural advocates of true equality because they've seen both sidesI agree with your main point, but I want to know what you mean by “...which is how men had to progress human rights throughout history.” Are you talking about specific events or are you implying men have advanced human rights without women? I’d also like to mention that the transfer of power was not that peaceful. In fact, in many instances violent repression was used. Where it did happen peacefully it is likely that the fact that women are around 50% of the population played a role, as well as … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/04/20 07:30 AM
