Which athletes say it’s easy getting in shape?

The only time I didn’t feel guilty rejecting someone was when a guy would not leave me alone at a party and kept trying to get me alone as a confused drunk young college student who never approached him or expressed interest but was too polite to more forcefully tell him to leave me alone. I was repeatedly saying I didn’t want to do anything with him, and luckily my friends got me away from him before anything physical happened, but THEN he tried to ask me out a few days later, apparently not re…

It CAN work if you are willing to put in a ton of effort in terms of communication. We let each other live our lives, but have gotten into a routine of a short nightly FaceTime just to connect about our day and touch bases, and try to schedule longer “dates” where we watch movies or play video games on a call. Jealousy is extra detrimental to a long-distance relationship, because a fundamental part of being happy with a long-distance partner is accepting that you are both independent people who …

“Women” aren’t anything, they literally make up half of humanity. There is vastly more variation within a gender than there is between genders.

Not necessarily. My main requirement for “knowledgeable” is just that I need someone who is intellectually curious. They don’t have to be an academic, or even traditionally super educated, but we’re both gonna be unhappy if I can’t talk about my research (I’m a scientist) without boring them to death. I definitely prefer relationships where we mutually learn from each other, but that’s tough to measure objectively.

I’m really not saying anything about hypergamy or women’s nature. I’m not a psychologist myself, but I know that evolutionary psychology is very controversial among experts in that field for poor research methods and flimsy evidence. I was just pointing out a personal pet peeve of mine, which is calling a trait “genetic” as an abstract concept rather than something tied to an existing, searchable body of data.

You didn't mention genes once. Not sure why you're so angry that I'm pointing out that saying something is "genetic" isn't an abstract concept, but something that can be (dis)proven or tied to actual, well-documented information. Genome databases are well-annotated with countless phenotypic effects. And I'm a woman. Gasp!

I don’t subscribe to it (or the bulk of evopsych) at all. It’s shaky at best and made-up at worst, unless you’re talking about people prioritizing partners that suit themselves and their lives well, which I think is universal and regardless of gender. I mostly made this comment because I really hate people co-opting scientific language to promote their unfounded rants. Like, you can’t just say something is “genetic” and not give any further information— we’ve sequenced the human genome, many gen…

Ok, you say you know hypergamy is genetic. Which genes cause it? Can you link us the papers? I’m a molecular biologist and I’m curious to know.

Agreed! And a side note, I think it makes you better at dating too, because it really helps you to see people you're attracted too as whole people rather than just objects of romantic/sexual desire. Part of why (imo) my boyfriend and I get along so well is because our respective hobbies/extracurriculars led us to each have primarily friends of the opposite sex. Because of that, neither of us see the opposite sex as a mystical creature, and we're very secure in both our personal friendships and r…

Yeah, and I thought I could see just fine until I got glasses. How would you know you’re not missing anything?

Self-reports are one of the most common methods used in social psychology research, and modern researchers are really rigorous about designing self-report studies to minimize bias, as well as validating results with other quantitative and qualitative methods. By the way, which methods do you use in YOUR psych lab if you know for a fact self-reports are useless? Let’s see that CV!

I’m an immunologist/cell biologist, yeah. Not an evolutionary biologist specifically, but it’s still been a big part of my education and research. My research focus is on host/pathogen interactions (in various contexts throughout different research groups I’ve been in), and any information is kind of useless and difficult to connect without thinking of the evolutionary adaptations that got us to where we are now.

For Pete's sake. Evolution is a series of random events. Your genes don't mutate simply because it might be good for your survival. It's estimated that 99.9% of species that have inhabited the Earth have gone extinct. Evolution is doing a shit job because it DOESN'T CARE! Nobody cares about your survival or whether you get laid. NOBODY! THANK YOUUUUU for pointing out the Lamarckian bs here! So few people understand that evolution has no intention or goal, it's just the propagation of randomly oc…

Yeah no, guaranteed I feel a lot more fulfilled as a scientist than I would if I were barefoot and pregnant. Side effect of feminism making education accessible to me: I know enough about evolutionary biology to tell you that most evolutionary psych hypotheses are built on extremely shaky data and are generally disregarded by leading evolutionary scientists, and enough about the world at large to tell you that the "traditional" nuclear family that you seem to think is our biological default is o…

I don’t generally pick clothes TO be revealing, just some clothes I like happen to be revealing. Like I love a good turtleneck, but sometimes there are just clothes that I think really suit me well and add something to my wardrobe that happen to show a little more skin. It’s really not that deep, I think people just have different fashion preferences?

True, if power is your goal. But I personally much prefer healthy relationship and human connection, and don’t see a reason to be with someone I DON’T care about?

Which feminists are you referring to? You’re painting with a really broad brush here. Could you point us to the feminist scholars you’ve seen defending war/the draft and widespread circumcision? Which papers have you seen written about this? Are you talking about actual feminist academics/activists, or just the MRA stereotype of feminists they want to hate?

I mean first of all, people aren't goods. That notion sets this whole line of thinking down a rough path.

How is it not objective to acknowledge that people have different priorities and either choose to or end up taking different paths in life?

Which vaccines are you talking about, specifically? Can you point us to the population-wide studies that show the clinical consequences of aluminum salts? Also, why are you assuming people who support vaccination don’t know the science? I work full-time in a molecular biology lab and I’m starting grad school in microbiology/immunology next year, and I think vaccine science is one of the most impressive feats of humanity.

"Women" don't have a specific taste in men, because we're not a monolith. Of course there are going to be situations where individual women's actions confirm redpill "science" but fixating on those while ignoring the numerous occasions that contradict those assumptions is just confirmation bias, pure and simple. If you're using isolated personal experiences to justify that women as a whole prefer muscular, tall, macho men, what happens when I say that I'm a young woman who thinks my 5'3" un-tatt…

Agreed that white women have benefited from racial oppression and that hero worship of white feminists can be a slap in the face to racial justice and intersectional feminist movements. Also agreed that white feminists need to be careful to be practicing feminism and not White Feminism (a lot of which means taking steps not to speak over WoC or to project white women's issues and successes as universal). However, how is this feminism's fault? Isn't this actually the fault of white supremacy, giv…

These fall apart as soon as you talk to the numerous people whose experiences are exactly the opposite of what TRP teaches. I'm a woman dating a guy who is 5'2", baby talks to my kitten every time he sees him, cries at half of the movies we watch, and I am incredibly attracted to him (I'm the one who asked him out)! I'm just one person on the internet, but I guarantee you're surrounded by people with similar experiences, and these generalizations shatter once you realize how common these excepti…
