Thank you. This is great advice. This is a perfect reminder of the tenets I learned when I had some success in my 30s: be masculine, confident and decisive. It's odd, in some other contexts, I can be confident and masculine, and I don't have trouble asserting my dominance. When I'm in alpha mode, I feel like I can smash through walls. Once I alone stood down a crowd of thugs who threatened to beat the shit out of me. In my career I regularly negotiate for my advantage against people with far mor…

You sound like me on my good days. Now, if I can just stay that motivated every day! Thanks for the book recommendations. Having good reading material always helps me keep focused and motivated during downtime. I just downloaded Models and Way of the Seal to my Kindle. I actually read Mindfulness in Plain English when I was younger and it was probably one of the most life-changing books I ever read. When I was at my peak and meditating an hour every day, there were moments when I felt like nothi…

Heh, yeah I have a really hard time judging ages now too. I can see that being a real problem. It's confusing! Some of the 14 year olds look 25, some of the 25 year olds look 15, and the 40 year olds look 50. I'm going to shoot for 30, and hopefully I'll be safe if I'm off by 10 years. What types of meetups do you go to? Are they specifically singles events or are they just based around things you're interested in?

People are challenging them, and you are fighting and resisting Actually, I'm not. Look at my other responses throughout this thread. You're the only person that I've been challenging, and only to clarify things that you misunderstood. And I'm challenging you because your tone has been kind of confrontational and kind of insulting from the start: It's as if you aren't aware You are making a lot of assumptions If all you want is to confirm your negative view of the world, you can do that on your …

Hmm. When I was diagnosed, the doctor didn't really tell me much about how it might affect my behavior, other than that I have trouble concentrating. (No shit.) He just wrote a prescription for Adderall and sent me on my way. Adderall definitely helps me stay focused (and be more sociable). But the article you linked to describes a lot of my social issues almost exactly. I might try to find a better doctor to get another opinion. I know something is different about me, especially in social situa…

I wish that was an option for me. I've got patchy thin hair, so I shave my head. Luckily, I've been told my head is a good shape. And apparently, women find men with shaved heads more dominant (or at least one scientific study said so).

Hey, when I was in the middle of my "dark times", I ballooned from 170 to 220. I tried to hide it behind a beard too. It's very possible to come back from that. I'm down to 190 -- still 20 lbs over my old 170, but it's been a huge improvement nonetheless. I'm still slowly edging my weight downward. You can get get through this.

game works at any age. This one of the big things I keep trying to remind myself when I get down about my situation. I've done this before. I can do it again. Thanks for all the other advice, too. I realize I've been ignoring opportunities in my existing social circle right now.

Fuck, this was inspiring! Thank you! I'm going to read this every morning and listen to the Rocky theme before I start my day.

The way I spoke was sometimes disjointed, because my brain was switching topics mid-sentence. This made other people uncomfortable and I picked up on that subconsciously, which made me avoid social situations. This is interesting. I do this a lot. I've been diagnosed with ADHD, but honestly I don't know how much stock to put into the diagnosis. I've been to multiple psychiatrists and each one gave me a different diagnosis.

By "taken" I mean "married" or in a LTR. I was being flippant and kind of joking. I know women aren't owned and they have free will, but a lot of women at this age are settled. And I'm not going to try to break up a marriage or a relationship. Even if a girl wants to cheat, I can't be part of it. I get the sense you have lots of emotional baggage (who doesn't) and lots of limiting beliefs that you are allowing to hold you back. And that's why I'm asking for advice from people on the internet, so…

Thanks for the advice. I'm on OKCupid, and it's going ... ok, but not great. I find that it's difficult to build attraction via text, and then my dates tend to devolve into interview mode. I'm going to keep trying, but it's been awkward so far. May I ask, why would you say that day game is a 20something thing? The reason why I was leaning towards it is because I live in a great neighborhood and whenever I walk out my door, I'm bound to see an attractive 30-year old (or five of them) within a few…

Thanks, I agree. This is the direction I've been trying to go. I've been trying to evolve my style to try to be more "timeless" and mature. When I was doing well in my 30s I seemed to attract some girls in their 20s who wanted a "daddy". I didn't try to, but that's what happened. I'm aiming more for 30-year olds now, but I figure women are still women and still want the same things. I think the things I'm dealing with now are more inner issues, like how do I project my age as being mature, exper…

It's as if you aren't aware that women age too. The dating pool shrinks because more people are married or in LTRs. And when I was younger, I'd go to a lot more parties where there were single attractive women. That doesn't happen so much anymore. I guess I also feel like most of the good 40-year old women are taken. It's mostly leftovers at this age. And as mean as that sounds, I would include myself in the male leftover pile. Are you wanting 20 year old girls? Physically, yeah, of course. I'm …

It's good to know there's someone else making this work over 40. This is all good advice. Probably the biggest thing I'm not currently doing is getting in shape. I'm not fat, and my outward appearance looks reasonably healthy, but I know I've got to exercise if I want to get my energy up. The arthritis has been a problem though. A couple times, I've started getting into an exercise routine and ended up hurting myself. I'm thinking about just spending the money on a personal trainer to help teach…
