If we’re getting technical it’s not mommy or daddy’s money that prevents me from working, it is my money. I own shares in the family business and any dividends related to my ownership shares are mine. I did inherit my shares but not even my parents could circumvent the distribution of my dividends.

Q regarding women’s income not factoring into their value— hypothetically what if a woman was reasonably attractive (let’s say a 7.5 out of 10) with a traditional approach to gender roles in dating (enjoys pampering her partner) and doesn’t have to work but she has an income from family money, so she brings home around 100k a year. To some extent, but I wouldn’t expect my partner to unilaterally handle all of those tasks. My partner pays for things like restaurant checks while I pay for stocking the fridge/bar and I prepare most of our meals at home. He pays for groceries sometimes, but I try to contribute by taking care of that and making him high quality meals. No I don’t think that is a realistic expectation. A woman who has shaped herself to meet the traditional standards that men view as ideal in a partner didn’t do that self work to partner up with a man who thinks it’s acceptable to be a childish adult.

Totally agree. I could make basic stuff from a young age but learning how to be a great cook took years! Probably at least 2 years of plain, by-the-book cooking before I understood the nuances of technique and flavor profiles to the point of being able to embellish and create my own dishes, 5 years in and I’m an excellent chef (woot woot!) but it took a lot of time, energy and money to get here!

We’ve been dating for 6 months. I know that isn’t a very long time. We’ve discussed it and feel that the amount of time we spend together and issues we’ve navigated together (e.g. his job change, me moving into my new home, me having major surgery) has accelerated the getting to know you stage for us. These Denver stereotypes check out, but keep in mind that the Denver dating scene isn’t for the faint of heart. Facts. My bf is a doctor and he helps me in ways beyond money. For example: I broke my elbow two weeks ago, really badly. Haha thank you, I wasn't able to finish Hitch, I quit after before the first act finished because it pissed me off so much. This is so true. I notice that everytime I show a group photo of me with my friends to my dad his immediate response is to say "you're the best looking one". I'm very put off by that reaction. I've been in therapy for years and I encourage everyone I know to go. Lots of my guy friends are super hesitant and I feel bad that it's so stigmatized for them but... get over it like I did. Literally all of my girlfriends see therapists regularly. Yes it's expensive, yes it's uncomfortable, yes it works. Honestly the best return on investment, moreso than my college degree. I don't like to imagine how my life would have turned out if I hadn't gotten into therapy.
