All of that made sense. I too would very much like to offer an up front one time lump payment (if I can afford to) using the house/retirement values as collateral (e.g. she can keep the house, retirement, etc and I pay nothing) if possible. I'd be fine walking away from home/retirement pay not having to pay any alimony ever. Done and done. I wish no alimony. That remains to be seen.. if I am able to get the mediator/judge to see that she should be able to work full time AND make about the same I do.. then hopefully that is true.

I realize she'll try to fuck me (not the good way.. though thats not very good anyway anymore) over financially. I will for sure be looking out for me first. I want the lowerst to 0 payment to her as much as possible. I don't want to be on the hook for ever (or even half the marriage so like 14 years) of having to pay her every month.

In a 50/50 state, recordings require permission of other party. She wont ever agree to it so it wont hold up in court. :(. I've been down that path.

So rough calculator indicates based on my 2x salary, and length of marriage I'd owe her $1500 a month for life. BUT.. that depends I believe on IF the judge will see that she SHOULD be able to work full time. Oh trust me.. I am in it to pay little to 0 if possible. I want her to have a good life e.g. shes the mother of my kids and I dont hate her like she hates me. I am not that person. But I dont want to help her enjoy life by paying her more. I would much prefer a lump sum payment and be done with her for good.

I would assume that if I impute her ability to work full time since there is no reason she cant.. and unless she can get a medical note saying she cant.. then she technically can make as much as me. I am guessing though long marriage, and that she was mostly working part time to not working at all recently, that even if she lands a job making 140K+ a year full time, the outcome will still be biased towards her having not worked full time at all for many years. Agree.. sort of. If it was years of the girls abusing/angry/blaming/etc towards father, it could take dad a long while to forgive and have a relationship. When its you, kids and wife.. and everyone is one sided regardless of the truth, you feel alone and angry and often want to be away from that for good. Sometimes that means never associated with kids/ex again. That's sad.. but it happens.

Biggest regrest is I didnt leave a lot longer ago, and connect up with my "true love" from 25 years ago who we are now in contact and hoping to spend the rest of our lives together. We've not dated/cheated.. just talking (so I guess one might try to say emotional cheating?). We just are both in horrible marriages. And no, neither of us want to remarry.. just be bf/gf. I am curious how this works. Does alimony (and child support) pause? I assume it has to berceuse you have no income. I am also curious if say you sold a home (split it 50/50 in divorce) and each had 150K in the bank. Does the fact that she has money in the bank lower the alimony at all.. and vice versa if you lose your job, do you get to pause/lower alimony even though you have 150K in bank from home sale?
