Girly girls tend to buy into slut shaming, and thus not be sluts.

Make getting married hard and getting divorced easy. Also, they should all be "civil unions".

I think it's less sexism per se, and more that women tend to abuse children in ways that have less shock value to most of society. Say a father sometimes lets his daughter sleep with him when she has a nightmare, all the alarms sound. CPS is on the case. Because sex sells. Say a mother plans to homeschool her son even though she's a college dropout who can't hold down a job, everyone shrugs. It's anyone's word against hers if they want to say the homeschooling isn't going great, so why bother in…

It goes both ways. Ideally, there would just be one big Gender Egalitarianism movement, but most people don't trust the other gender enough to trust such a movement. It's basically a big Prisoners' Dilemma problem.

I actually have heard feminists say things like this a lot, especially when pressed. That's not generally the problem. The usual tactic of SJWs isn't to claim that the privileged are incapable of being good -- that would give the privileged an excuse. It's to claim that only those deemed to have privilege are capable of being bad. It's the same with the "only white people can be racist" meme.

No, Virginia, this sub isn't inherently more high-minded than than other SJW subs. The only thing Redditors are a good sample of is Redditors. Any sub whose users' reasonableness can be predicted by something other than than the fact that they are Redditors, has too many rules,

Just because I'm debating gender issues, doesn't mean I always have to take the position that any given outcome would have been different were any given participant's gender changed. The issue of what is or is not a gender issue, is a gender issue.

It just bugs me how people keep bringing up gendered social standards here, when what matters are Supreme Court social standards. Honestly, I'm not sure what the current Senate would have made of an equally emotional female nominee who was equally in line with the current right wing agenda. What I'm sure of is that Trump wouldn't have nominated her in the first place, so it's a moot point.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/10/18 10:08 PM

By a very different Senate under very different but equally bizarre circumstances? Maybe. I think under most circumstances, no SCOTUS nominee would have gotten away with an outburst like Kavanaugh's. The current zeitgeist is by no means a representative sample of history.

It's also worth noting that the records say the incident happened when Ford was in her late teens, rather than 15, didn't mention Kavanaugh, and said there were four guys, rather than two. Ford said this was an error on the therapist's part, and she said there were four boys at the party and two of them in the room. But it still casts enough doubt to make the therapist's notes not that valuable.

I hope this doesn't get deleted, as I think this is an important topic that would be a disservice not to discuss. Don't worry. If I haven't gotten any of my posts in this sub deleted yet, you won't. So let's see if this gets deleted: First off, granted, this is a hideous shitshow, no matter how you look at it. I've been falsely accused of rape myself, and I wouldn't wish Kavanaugh's fate on my worst enemy. Then again, I also wouldn't vote for anyone based on pity, and I hope the Senate won't eit…

One thing I wouldn't be concerned about no matter what side he was on is his feelings. There's far more at stake here. I'm not being partisan. I deliberately mentioned Obama stuff in my previous post. And as sad as Kavanaugh's situation is, he hasn't actually been wronged. Except maybe by Ford, if she's lying, but that's an unknown, so presume innocence. He was never entitled to be on the SCOTUS. There's nothing illegal about refusing to hire someone based on hearsay from a third party. It sucks…

You're right, I guess I just have trouble feeling sorry for the man. He would almost certainly work to increase presidential power/immunity. From where the Executive Branch is now, that's just about an existential threat to American democracy. You play for the team that's been fighting dirty for over two years, this is what can happen. It's unfortunately what passes for "just politics" these days. Massive smear campaigns? Just politics. Locking up children? Just politics. Elections that are litt…

Been there, done that. Never claimed I was qualified to be on the Supreme Court. If he can't keep it together and he cares more his personal dignity than being on the SCOTUS, he shouldn't be.

Egh? An employer can choose not to hire someone based on hearsay. An employer can also choose to hire someone in spite of hearsay. Employers have that much freedom. Would a 35-year-old theft accusation stop you from landing most jobs? That depends on what you allegedly stole, and under what circumstances, and what kind of job you're applying for, but probably not. Would it stop you from getting a lifetime supreme court appointment? Maybe, if enough senators think it's relevant. At this point, I …

Freedom of speech isn't conservative either. The government is not limiting your free speech. Society is (has, and will). Yes and no. The more communication occurs over social media, the more social media companies have the de facto power to restrict free speech. At a certain point, the fact that they can do that because they're in the private sector becomes an argument that social media shouldn't be in the private sector.

I said the solution was simple. I didn't say it was easy.
/r/MensRights26/09/18 08:28 PM

Simple. Women need to talk about toxic masculinity less and toxic femininity more. Men need to do the reverse. Talking about the log in your eye before the splinter in someone else's, and all that.

If this is truly the case, if people truly let their political ideas guide their behaviors in their personal life, I wouldn't have had a feminist professor who wrote 5 books on feminism choking on my penis while trying to say "I am a strong, independent woman" like I did last year. What does that prove? As for me, my wife is sexually submissive, I am sexually dominant. My wife is socially dominant, I am socially submissive. Our relationship when naked is different from our relationship when clot…

And so contraception became widely available sooner than it probably otherwise would have in a hypothetical alternate universe where feminism never existed, not that anyone can go there and check. But in the long run, it's hard to suppress a technology, and it's harder the more demand there is.

All I'm trying to say is that I don't see any reason to assume that if modern birth control methods had been invented by a civilization that had never heard of feminism, it would never have become widely available. Maybe the pill would have been banned at first but eventually decriminalized due to overwhelming demand, as with marijuana. Maybe an abject patriarchy wouldn't have found it threatening at all without the specter of the "new woman". At least to begin with. What's more, in an undemocra…

I said "feminism itself" couldn't have done it, as in feminism alone. Abortions have also been legal in many times and places that were in no way feminist. So feminism isn't a strict prerequisite for legal birth control.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/06/18 10:44 PM

I doubt feminism specifically made sex more available to anyone. No ideology could have reduced the consequences of sex for women. Medical science did that.

On second thought, I'm not actually sure how what you're saying contradicts what I'm saying. How is getting someone pregnant against her will not an expression of power?
/r/PurplePillDebate16/06/18 08:45 PM

Okay, fair point. But look, evolution doesn't care if people are happy. Just because I'm saying rape has a role in human evolution, doesn't mean I'm saying it's a good thing.

It helps to think about this on a societal level. If rape is a viable way for men to reproduce, societies with more of a rape culture will have greater reproductive fitness in the long run, even if the rapists aren't consciously trying to reproduce. Plus, I think a fair number of rapists do have a mindset of "spreading their wild oats" and bragging about how many bastards they probably have, and more used to have such a mindset.

https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/ae5bep/the-pros-and-cons-of-having-an-herbal-abortion Okay, that's about what I thought. Herbal abortions are potentially safe, if the witch-doctor at your local medieval apothecary really knows his stuff, and the woman figures out that she's pregnant in the first six weeks, which isn't a sure thing before modern medicine. Sounds like a better bet than a coat hanger, but not great. And I'm going to guess especially not great to do on the regular, so not som…

How safe were these birth control methods? How reliable? How expensive? It's hard to believe that modern medicine has changed nothing in this area.

But if you're a woman in a world where condoms exist, they don't really prevent you from having children, and if you're a man in a world where condoms exist, they don't at all help you have children.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy. That doesn't mean it's the men's fault. I'm just saying there's a lot of tacit bias against male victims, and a strong tendency for the media to portray sexual harassment and assault as things that only affect women. That tendency discourages men from coming forward. There wasn't a conspiracy to keep women from coming forward before #MeToo. To say that feminist ideology acknowledges the existence of female predators is not to say how feminist culture reacts when…

It also occurs to me that "no staring" seems like a particularly problematic rule in show business. I feel like a lot of people in acting and especially directing would have a legitimate, professional interest in sizing up an employee's or coworker's behavior, even off-camera.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/06/18 05:44 PM

Which I posit is because the entire thing is being framed as a "women's issue", which makes male victims of women find it unlikely they'll be believed.

Remember the 90s internet, when a "me too" just meant repeating what someone else said on a forum without contributing anything of your own?

The only one I can recall/find is Melanie Martinez. I've been following the news, I just did a few Google searches for female-on-male "me too" incidents and I'm coming up pretty dry. All I can find are studies on the amount of sexual harassment/assault of men vs women. The thing is, according to the statistics in this article: www.nytimes.com/2018/02/21/upshot/pervasive-sexual-harassment-why-me-too-took-off-poll.html, about a third to half of "me too" reports should be by male victims. That's de…

I must have missed the part where I saw a single article on a widely reported "me too" story involving a woman so much as harassing man. This is odd, considering the rising rate of female-on-male sexual assault.

Sorry I didn't notice your username. That's kind of the point I was trying to make, though. The user I was responding to was making a blanket statement, and what I wanted to do was point out that "the patriarchy" and "the MRAs" are at least slightly more nuanced entities than Soy Goy was admitting by flatly calling MRAs "nothing" and "the default".
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/18 11:17 PM
1

Sorry, I'm just trying to pin down what you mean by Men's Rights being both "nothing" and "the default state" (which seems like a bit of a contradiction, come to think of it). Are you saying you think the status quo at this time is 100% male dominated, so MRAs don't actually have anything to gain? Because that's not true. Men are still exclusively subject to the draft in the US, for a low-hanging-fruit example.

Some forms of female circumcision are roughly as harmful as standard male circumcision, and backed by their own religious and cultural precedents. Male circumcision still amounts to holding down and mutilating a baby for no medical purpose. I see no fundamental difference.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/18 06:09 PM

Just because it's the default doesn't mean it's inevitable. Are you saying that feminism hasn't gotten anywhere, and isn't getting anywhere, and the patriarchy doesn't even care about stamping it out?
