I trusted my lawyer and should have listened to her more when negotiating the mediation.

M46. Divorced about a year, for the second time. Coparent one child. I don’t plan on getting married again. I’m moving my elderly parents into my home to help them through their golden years. I might think about a long term relationship at some point in the future but don’t see getting married again. The idea of dating someone much younger is not attractive. I’m not sure these burns ever heal. I also think I might be the problem. 😂😭🤷🏽

Pretty much just gave up on romantic relationships. It’s been a year and I’ve kind of thought about going on a few dates but I just feel like what’s the fucking point. Focus on my son the days I have him. Moving my elderly parents in a few months from now so I can help them as they age. Side hustle/hobbies. Take some trips.

I don’t see how you can have a mediation with someone that violates standing orders out of the gate. You are way behind and living in a fantasy land. Get a good lawyer yesterday.

I came out ok. Maybe 60/40 her. I conceded more than maybe I should have during mediation because I was still afraid of her out bursts. She made more the last 3-4 years of the marriage and brought a home into it though. It’s been 11 months since I left. Bought a new house with a 401k withdrawal. Moving my parents in so I can take care of them as they age. 50/50 custody. Life goes on. Might try going on some dates this year. Might just be done. We’ll see. Keep your chin up and gray rock that shit…

Awkward how good it makes you feel. I’d make them go if it was what you agreed with her. You might want them next time.

Write her a letter explaining all of your feels, anger disappointments, betrayals. Cover your failures too. You have to honor those feelings or they fester and then you are ruining your own life. Forgive her and yourself in the letter if you can. Read it a couple of times and then maybe burn it or leave it in a drawer to come back to later. It is not to be sent. Seems like the stupidest exercise but letting those feelings out will heal your heart and mind. Then you can let go of the shit that is…

Prostitution seems dirty. Sorry, if that’s your thing or profession. No way to know if the person is being trafficked or if I could be blackmailed later. Can’t see any potential positive outcomes. I think it would make me feel really depressed to be with someone in that way. I want to love someone I’m with. Fwb might be ok if it was exclusive but that’s … an actual relationship? Doesn’t seem like it’s worth the risk (financial/emotional/health) or the hassle anymore. I don’t trust myself not to …

You should get a lawyer. Then do arbitration. So I’ll just make a list of everything in a spreadsheet and you’ll sit there paying $800 an hour until the shit is divided. If you’re in a 50-50 state, shit should be divided 50-50 according to dollar value unless you agree otherwise.

I think ultimately my level of chaos and her level of neuroticism are not a good fit. I don’t want to live in a museum, she doesn’t want to live with 999 ADHD “organizational” stacks. We’re fairly good coparents. I don’t know if I’ll even date again. But I’ll be heavily screening for compatible brains.

If my kid was flying I would want them to have a phone. She clearly can’t provide that phone. Do they even have to go see her at all? I’m unclear on the context for flying. Would absolutely have someone like this arrested as often as possible. I don’t know if I would even respond. Receive phone. Call cops.

I made my attorney tell me it was ok to move out 3x before I actually did it.
/r/Divorce_Men26/11/25 02:49 PM
5

This is a great question for your attorney and also depends on the state you live in. We did a preliminary agreement with a custody schedule before going to arbitration and I was able to move out 3.5 months before the divorce was actually approved by the judge. The financial shit show is just that. Sorry man.

Sorry you are going through this. It’s hard but you can get through it. I’m 9 months post move out. Divorce was settled amicably in May. I’m trying to buy a new house next month. Fingers crossed boys. Women go into Peri-menopause and start feeling very different about a lot of things. Maybe it’s that, maybe it’s something else, maybe it’s just boredom. You’ll probably never really know. Everything that you’ve done wrong forever just builds up to some of them. Ironically, I think I compromised my…

My ex-wife told me before cancer, during cancer, and after cancer that she wanted a divorce. I’m not sure why I took so long to listen to her. You can be divorced and still take her to treatment. If my ex ended up destitute and needed a place to live because her cancer came back I would still take her in. She gave me a whole human being and I’ll never forget that. She might stop being so evil if y’all were apart too. Our son is younger though, and I don’t see pursuing any relationships until he …

Which state really matters. Texas fits both of those criteria and has no alimony, 50/50 custody implies no child support. There could be spousal support but it’s not like … California. Spend $500 and talk to a lawyer. Seriously, freeze your credit and change your passwords right now.
/r/Divorce_Men18/10/25 08:50 PM

Freeze your credit at the bureaus so she can’t open new accounts on your credit. Change all your passwords. Open your own bank account. Maybe try marriage, counseling or therapy? I couldn’t be with someone that was putting me into a financial black hole. What state do you live in? Time to throw down the gauntlet about behavioral changes.

There was so much daily conflict at the end of our marriage that it was bad for everybody. Once we had a signed mediation agreement I moved out and everyday has been more peaceful since. Better quality time with my son. He is no longer exposed to our yelling matches. I don’t hate myself because someone isn’t trying to control me anymore. I’m even able to interact with my ex in a civilized manner. I think someday maybe even be friends, with boundaries, again. I probably kicked the can on getting …

I screwed up my ex’s bday this week. She took a lot of care to make sure I had a nice birthday with my son a few weeks ago. I felt bad. Sent emergency flowers from our son, that she probably didn’t like. I had just deleted my calendar invite/reminder because we’re …not married. To be clear, I felt bad because I set my son up to disappoint her. Sorry, I’m sure that felt bad. Maybe kill her with kindness next time? I told one of my friends the other day and they just said, your kid knows what she …

I only spent $10k. I think she spent the same or a little more because she had a lot of questions. We did mediation and got it knocked out in one session. Both work. Texas. 50/50. No child support, we just split child monthly expenses. Not contentious.

Not if he has to subsidize his ex for $1M a year in spousal support. He’ll be broke in short order. The only good thing about California is the weather. Even if they relocated I bet she could go back and file there for a disturbing amount of time. Move to Texas. Maybe try therapy and dating your wife if the resentment mountain isn’t unscalable and you haven’t already. I’d be surprised if she isn’t wanting until the youngest starts college and then shoots him with both barrels anyway.

NAL. My recent divorce, with lawyers and settled in mediation was probably $9,000. Money well spent. We did one session of mediation that lasted about three hours. My lawyers hourly rate was probably $450. I made sure to hire a female attorney. She was a rockstar. You really want STBX make as many mistakes as she can. Then if mediation fails, the judge will usually find these bad behaviors as a negative against her. You’ll both have to bring a spreadsheet of everything to mediation. The mediator…

I moved 7 minutes away and it’s been great. He has friends that walk to my house. Made it the hang out spot and let him have other friends over all the time. I think it made the transition much easier on him. Knowing that I’m always nearby. We have 50/50 and I couldn’t accept less. It has been 5 months.

I came home one day and had this talk with my ex-wife. She just said she was gay. That was it for me, I was ready to eject and just needed one really solid reason. You are free. Close the door on the past. Turn the page. Go to the gym. Invest in yourself. People make all sorts of compromises thinking they can live with them and sometimes you just can’t. That’s just normal human shitty shit. You will meet someone else. You’ll move past this and you will be happier than you were in your compromise…

He could feel so guilty that he cannot possibly face her under any circumstances. Changing your phone number to cut someone off is pretty extreme. He probably has his reasons. I am surprised that you haven’t asked. She could also be a terrible person and cancer doesn’t change that. My wife had very serious cancer 2.5 years ago. I would still reach out to her and offer to help anyway that I could if we were divorced. She probably wouldn’t accept it though.

Sounds high risk to me. Is your lawyer any good? From your post you sound like you aren’t disagreeing with the diagnosis. Knowing yourself and being able to admit our own flaws or challenges, especially ones that are really hard to deal with has to be the first step in getting back to a good place where you can see your kids again. I think that you need to make a really strong documented case on how you are committed to treatment and show improvement that you can see and a doctor can document an…

Get an annulment! You are young and handsome and your stock is just going to go up as the dating pool of decent men shrinks. If she wants to go, good riddens! You are better off without her. Dust yourself off, get your shit together and find someone better.

If you move out in some states I think it can be abandonment which is grounds for you to lose custody rights. You need to get legal advice IMMEDIATELY. If she called her mom, you are not putting this marriage back together again. I agree you should be civil but I would be extremely afraid of losing my kid. These women are clearly going to lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie and lie in court.

If she’s not going to quit drinking why do you want to be married to her? You would probably have to quit too if you drink. If the kids are telling you to get out... it sounds like it might be in their best interest unless she is going to make big tough changes.
