Therein lies the rub. Right now there isn't much of a guarantee, which is why it is really a consumer's game right now - find the right box. What you can basically expect is a group-class setting with standardized specialty equipment (bumper plates, KBs, medicine balls, etc.) doing workouts that will definitely consist of a high intensity workout, and may or may not provide access to dedicated strength and olympic lifting. That is the core of what can be expected at any gym. Beyond that it's rea…

Didn't take anything the wrong way, no worries there. It sounds like boxes can go the extra mile if they want to, but they don't have to. Bingo. Crossfit is a brand, and they don't have strict guidelines as to how you need to do programming at your gym. So picking a gym is like picking a traditional gym, based on what YOU want out of it. Want to deadlift heavy? Don't pick planet fitness. Want some special equipment like bumper plates, or reverse hypers? You probably can't find that at golds, and…

Impressive lifting numbers! Thanks! The problem with Crossfit is that it is not training - it's just doing a bunch of random exercises which change every day. This is where everyone that doesn't do Crossfit gets confused. Crossfit doesn't have to be that. A properly thought out Crossfit program is really just daily unjulating periodization with some form of conjugated methodology. Let's take the workout "Fran". This is a couplet of Thursters (95#) and pull-ups (of the kipping variety). In a trad…

I can't say for sure on that exercise - kind of sounds like they were trying to apply trigger point therapy - but I doubt they were successful in a group setting. Foam rolling, and lacrosse ball work is frequent - but never heard of that. So far as emphasis on speed - yes, but you need to take it upon yourself to take that with a grain of salt. Even if people are cheering you and urging you to go faster, they are doing so under the assumption that you are slowing down due to fatigue, and need a …

Any type of training can be done wrong. I crossfit. I have been going to a crossfit gym for 4 years. I have done bad crossfit training in that time, and I have also learned how to do it right without totally screwing myself up in the process. Every week, at my crossfit gym, I put over 500# on my back, and I squat. I have hit 565# combined bar/chain weight. I have deadlifted 565 within the past 2 weeks. I bench 315. And I'm still getting stronger. I'm under 200#, and lean. I can do 25 chins (with…

I don't think it's that I'm blind, so much as uninformed. I'm fairly new to this sub. I saw someone reference it, or the members here condescendingly, and got curious as to what it is. I subscribed, but didn't look into it much, but have read a bunch of the posts on my newsfeed. I don't really understand the philosophy yet, and haven't done enough reading, so I'm really just a learning observer at this point, like a jury member should be in court - uninformed, and neutral. I just stumbled across…

The idea that the red pill is being shutdown is a MASSIVE assumption. No one says that anywhere. There is no source on that. OP made a massive leap.

Depending on where you are, it's not really any more costly than any other specialty gym. I pay 109$ for my wife and myself at my Crossfit gym. Looking around at other specialty fitness classes in my area: Yoga: $130/month Pilates: $90/month Powerlifting: $50/month Pretty similar pricing. There are definitely more expensive crossfit gyms around, but when comparing it to other personal/group training classes, or specialty gyms, it's pretty similar.

You're all over the map. I crossfit. I also squat 500 (let me qualify, my last PR was 475, but I fully expect to hit 500 on my next attempt. I just hit 465 with 80# of chain added last week. And supple leopard is written by an avid crossfitter.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
