See, this is where pacifying your emotions really helps. In a conflict situation you really shouldn't think in terms of pride, or worry about looking like a pussy. If all you want to accomplish is ensure safety and end your interaction with an unstable person, you have to deescalate and disengage, no matter what that takes.

He wasn't at fault but he failed to pacify his emotions and do whatever necessary to resolve the conflict. It could even be argued that he instigated her in some parts of the exchange. Basically, there were points where he could have walked away and ended the interaction, but chose not to. I'm guessing because he was justifiably angry.

Just curious, what would you guys say to someone like me who has an anecdote which contradicts this reasoning? I've always had trouble expressing feelings and when my father passed in January my girlfriend forced me to open up to her. I felt very vulnerable and cried to her and our relationship became much stronger following.

Texas. Computer science major. I've never personally experienced anyone discouraging women from entering STEM and the women I take classes with have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences. In fact my engineering partner is a boss bitch who drives in from an hour away in the sticks and works full time while studying computer engineering full time.

Great point. I think America not having laws against hate speech should be appreciated as something unique and our culture should get credit for it.
