Best way to get over someone is to get under someone else

I was the one who initiated the divorce process. It was a difficult decision but I'm happy I did it. Luckily, my ex wife was agreeable to go through medication as that saved us a lot of time and money. Honestly I waited until my kids were old enough before I started the process. I know I wouldn't have been able to spend much time with them after the divorce so I waited as long as I could. My boys are 22,18, and 13. If you have specific questions DM me, I live in CT btw

See if she can assume the mortgage which will remove you from the mortgage and keep the same terms of the original mortgage. She would need to cut you a check for your remaining equity after the retirement etc which she can get a HELOC to do

Dude I know that you have strong feelings for your wife but you have to realize that this marriage is beyond over. A person will treat you how you let them, and going back to her after her indiscretions tells her you're okay with her treating you like shit. You have to shut it down for yourself and your kid.

Kinda, the divorce was approved by the court last year September. I bought her out of the house and the process of moving the funds took a long time. Coupled with the fact that she stubbornly didn't want to leave, that's why it was over a year from the divorce to her moving out. If you are keeping the house don't leave at all!!!!

I was recently in your position, although I was the one who fell out of love. We had to live together during the divorce process and afterwards to settle the house division which lasted a year. Things I learned were to limit interactions, don't let her try to bait you into arguing with silly shit. Document everything, record any interactions with her especially if she tries to claim abuse. Don't know if you have kids, if so it's tough to not expose them to the toxic environment. It's a mental ma…

I wholeheartedly regret my marriage. Although my 3 sons are great I could have had them with a better mother. Over 20 years of my life wasted, never again...

I have been living with my ex wife for over a year, stay away from each other as much as you can. Don't let her games and antics get to you, she will try and test you mentally and emotionally, stay strong.

My turning point was an incident that happened on vacation. Long story short, her true feelings and lack of respect for me came out. I knew I had to leave, even though it meant that I wouldn't be able to spend as much time with my 3 boys as I wanted.

Make sure you split bank accounts, record everything, get in front of the narrative with family and friends, not lying but just setting the record straight. I would suggest that you use a mediator instead of the courts. Understand that she will be working off emotions and will try to bate you for emotional manipulation and reactions, don't fall for it, keep the talking to a minimum and only about the divorce. Be realistic, you will take a financial, emotional, and mental hit. Financially try to …

The worst part was the reason why I had to file for divorce in the first place. No one goes into marriage to get divorced (at least no guys do that) so for me to have to break up my home and not being able to stay with my sons was the worst part

I filed, I couldn't take the neglect and usury not even for the sake of being with my 3 sons regularly. The final straw came when we were on a cruise and docked in Puerto Rico for an excursion. I had a terrible case of gout that morning and couldn't walk so obviously I couldn't do the excursion. Instead of staying with me, she took the tickets (which I bought mind you) took the kids and went on without me. I can't tell you the feelings of abandonment and loneliness I felt that day in the cabin f…

No where in his description of his situation did he state or imply that he was disrespecting her. He is asking for guidance to avoid the appearance of disrespect when communicating to her

I think that's called gaslighting or something like that, definitely deflecting and narcissistic

I'm going through a similar situation, my wife and I have been married going on 17 years and I've decided I'm tired of being unhappy. Like you, I suggested counseling years ago and she stalled until I gave up. Once I stated that I want out, she's ready to book sessions immediately. She only wants me around to keep paying the bills, the thought of her having to fend for herself and pay her own bills is scary for her and quite frankly I don't give a shit anymore.

I'm thinking of the kids well being don't want them to be pawns in their parents tug of war, regardless of what the courts says the kids mental health should be priority

So long as your intentions are for the well-being of your children and not retaliation to what she did to you than it should be fine

Congratulations, do you mind if i ask some questions, i'm in the planning stages of seeking a divorce: What state did you get divorced in? Did you seek to do mediation first? What exactly caused it to last so long, was it your ex-wife or the lawyers milking fees? How much did you ultimately pay for peace of mind? What would you have done differently?

Your instincts are correct, don't try to hold on to the past, people show you what their true colors are and it's up to you to decide to accept it or to move on from it. She has shown you who she really is, any changes she's doing now is survival mode and will not last. I'm going through the exact same situation except we have kids and have been together for over 15 years. I can understand your situation completely. Please focus on your happiness and your sanity and well being and move on from t…

death by a thousand cuts for me too, being in a loveless marriage for almost 20 years i can't keep lying to myself thinking she will change and that we can be a happy couple. like most men, i stayed for the kids, i witnessed not having my father around when my parents got divorced and decided i didn't want to have the same things happen to my boys, but life is life and you can't always affect the outcome. due to the pandemic i haven't been able to file paperwork but i'm clear in my head i need t…
