While I wasn't referring to those here for a short time, you are right in that many sexpats here live in a bubble and find they only interact with girls from bars etc, where the girls initiate. The guys complain they can't find a 'normal' girl yet do nothing to help themselves.

From my experience, these guys usually get cucked harder than most cases I see in the UK. The sad fact is, a lot of guys come to Thailand as betas who can't get pussy, and although they can get pussy here, the beta mentality doesn't go away. I've seen people's life savings disappear, houses stolen, constant cucking and the rest. Pussy may be in abundance here, but that doesn't mean the guys are alpha.

As mentioned, I'm not Thai, but have lived here for a long time and studied Thailand at SOAS, so I have a pretty deep knowledge of things. You are oversimplifying things with your assessment of the sin sot. Look it up, you will see it's more than that.

As a generalisation I would agree with you. A lot of older dudes here spunking their pension up a ruthless Thai whore. Ladyboy is general term here for a transsexual, m - f. Extremely common here in Thailand. Some are very hard to identify as they can be very beautiful. However, I've never spoken with one yet who didn't have issues of some sort.

Thailand is a weird one for sure. While the sin sot custom is pretty odd, it is a man's world out here. Having a second wife (mia noi) or girls on the side (gik) is very common and accepted by a huge number of women. Durex did a survey and found that Thai men are the second most adulterous on the planet. So while it seems as though it's a shit deal for the bloke, actually we get away with murder here compared to what men get away with in most western societies.

So yeah, sin sot is a dowry, but paid from male to female, rather than the other way around. So yeah, could say a reverse dowry. It Thailand we have 'sin sot' which is a dowry paid to the family of the female. It's pretty fucked up, since the dowry is negotiated and is paid in both cash and gold, which is presented on a platter at the wedding for all guests to see.
