The right way to handle feminists -- just escort the annoying children out and then get back to what you were doing.

I assumed you had made up the headline, but no, the opinion page of the LA Times is openly and enthusiastically mocking feminists -- truly amazing.

Shanley has protected her tweets and profile, you have to be a confirmed follower to see them. Since the article was only published yesterday, and contained links and no mention that the account was protected, one might assume that the publicity was more than she wanted. It's really odd to see this article doubling-down on rape culture just as the UVA case seems to be turning into not just "details wrong due to trauma" but outright fabrication.

The woman who files a rape charge on the basis that she thought the man had more money that he really did, should herself be charged with prostitution since she's admitting that she was only in it for the money.

The first draft in the Dunham talk page looked like a whitewash, but I see that it's ongoing. Also good to see you on the Matt Taylor page. I don't do wikipedia but I'd suggest that if the shirt is going to stay on his entry, the description should note that he had a lot of supporters as well as detractors, and that the sexism charges are facing quite a backlash.

The irony is Rose Eveleth's tweet (presumably directed to Matt Taylor): "Thanks for ruining the cool comet landing for me asshole" which sums up a lot of people's feelings about her.

The answer is on the talk page for her article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Lena_Dunham#Controversy_section.3F Start with the idea that the story of her masturbating in bed next to her sister does not come from a reliable source (I mean it's only something she wrote about herself, she could be mistaken, right??), which is what one wikipedia editor says. Go ahead and wade into that cesspool if you want and try to make the edits.

What is the feminist agenda? It's dedicated to the dismantling of the Patriarchy. Which means it's a lot like Don Quixote's mission to kill the giants.

If Dunham had a case her lawyers would have already filed; they wouldn't waste time sending a letter like this, especially knowing that even if truthrevolt deleted the story it's already copied all over the internet.

I must have missed the part about the Crusades and Infidels and the Church in the article and in GrimTerra's comment. Your "point" seems mainly to have been to show off, and it didn't add anything to the discussion at hand. I had a point to make, most people seemed to have understood that. I assume you're judging that by upvotes... since the comment that you disparaged has 3x as many as yours, I think you lose.

Read this article: Is the male pill good for women? which is also currently in /r/MensRights These quotes sum up the position: The bigger issue behind the development of a contraceptive pill for men is that women risk losing control of conception. and The pill gives women control of the fertility tap. This is strange: Interviewer asks: What would you do if you saw him? She answers: There is a no-contact order so there is nothing I can do without getting expelled. Which sounds like a no-contact order has been issued against her. I wonder what the background is on that. feminists used the courts to restrict gay male porn, particularly at the border, on the grounds that it somehow demeans women do you have any background on this? I'd love to read it; that's classic Canadian Feminism at work. I wonder if it demeans women because they're seen as not even being worthy of having sex with? Or because it disadvantages them in the Porn labour market by reducing their acting roles. The mind boggles at the possibilities. This is a whole new meme: "Male Gay porn is misogy…

“While Miller-Young submitted a written apology to the court for taking and destroying the sign, the sincerity of that apology is undercut by other letters she submitted from colleagues, several of which attempt to shift the blame onto the pro-lifers,” This is what a feminist looks like: It's always not their fault. The whole premise is faulty but there was one interesting and surprising nugget in there: One additional advantage of quotas for men is that they would prompt us to think more about how men are represented in politics. There is a lot of research on “women’s issues” and women’s interests, but it is taken for granted that men’s needs are met because there are so many men in politics. But as with merit, we may be too complacent in our belief that the current system is working. I disagree that there…

I glanced over the Florida House Alimony bill. It: removed permanent alimony set limits of between 20-50% of income as maximum amount one could be forced to pay (depending on length of marriage etc). removed the "established standard of living" basis for seeking alimony Feminists think these are horrible things evidently because (to quote the NOW press release): “There are untold thousands of women who spent their lives staying at home while helping a husband advance his career, only to be ‘dump…

I agree... it's discussed in the article: Just two years ago, Cornell stripped those accused of sexual offenses of the right to retain an attorney in University proceedings and the right to cross-examine their accusers. Sorry if my original wording wasn't explicit. I'm thinking of this in the general context of "the accused shall enjoy the right…to be confronted with the witnesses against him" as the US Sixth Amendment puts it, which ideally would be through an attorney.
/r/MensRights18/04/14 05:50 PM

From the comments, there is this great explanation as to why the accused shouldn't be able to question the accuser: As a victim of an assault, I can speak from experience and say that regardless of if the accusation is truthful, especially in the case of rape, protection from contact (direct or indirect) with an offender is crucial. That's some mighty fine thinking going on right there

Permission I do not think that word means what you think it means. Also, including "partner" (ie, someone who would have no conceivable grounds to give "permission" for a medical procedure even under the most reactionary legal system) and the "not guaranteed to result in permanent sterility" make it pretty obvious that this is not about permission, but rather avoiding liability on the part of the clinic if the "partner" gets pregnant and tries to come back and sue them.

No, fuck that. He says that he thinks boys need to be changed, and he's using the word "soften" because he can't come up with any other word for "don't rape anyone asshole". Basically he's looking for some code word that will allow him to say "boys are rapists" while denying that that's what he's saying. Teach the principles of self-control, selflessness, a concern for others. At least in my experience, those were always traditional male values. Not too soft, not too tough. Reasonable. Compromise (ie, being reasonable) is not always the best choice, because people will often try to take advantage and label you "unreasonable" if you defend yourself. But generally I agree with the rest of what you wrote.
/r/MensRights11/03/14 08:53 PM

I'm curious about something: in your twitter exchange, the author says "don't rape asshole" is a reaction to the culture of men being "tough". You seemed to agree that it was at least valid to question whether men need to be tough. My question to both of you: are you suggesting that being "tough" is obsolete? There's a requirement for "toughness" in some circumstances and that can't be wished away no matter how much feminists might try. This idea of making boys soft seems like something that eli…

If a girl is drunk then she can't consent to sex and the sex would be rape. Therefore, if you've attempted to have sex with a drunk girl, but you stopped, because she said no, then you've attempted rape. My point (admittedly presented with some sarcasm) is that anyone arguing that a gender pay gap is based on sexism is arguing that sexism is a more powerful force than greed. It's because employers like to pay men more for the same work that a woman does. Even though corporations count numbers of sheets of paper used in copiers, or eliminate left-turns in their delivery trucks, or install motion detectors to turn off lights in unused conference rooms -- all to save a few pennies, they are happy to pay men more for a job than they'd pay a woman to do the exact same work. Ask and you shall receive: Sandra G. Harding (born 1935) is an American philosopher of feminist and postcolonial theory, epistemology, research methodology, and philosophy of science [who] referred to Newton's Principia Mathematica as a "rape manual" in her 1986 book "The Science Question in Feminism"

It's strange that anyone feels the need to pay for an editor to push feminist topics on wikipedia since it seems to be the default position anyway.

Nice steaming pile of strawman arguments there. Nice too, that he gives a hint as to why he may be a feminist: Also, if I wore it (the shirt where this was found), people would totally assume that I was just trying to get laid.

Definintely, kinky doesn't mean molester. Some people seemed to think I was implying that. I'm not. Basically my thought was that you are maybe "over-sharing" when you deal with strangers and their children. I saw it as part of a larger picture that I suspect you may be presenting without realizing it. As I said in my original reply, most of the time, details of a persons reading don't come up in casual conversation. I would consider "[liking] to explore the concept of such media helping to form…

I looked at your post history. It's none of my business what people like but looking at your interests, and then having you say: I like to explore the concept of such media helping to form a child's personality I think you're being a little disingenuous to call any parent "overly-concerned" since you're into some pretty niche sexuality. Enjoy your own thing, but don't act all surprised when other people don't "get it". EDIT TO ADD: I'm admittedly assuming that you're somehow "escalating" the sit…

I have to agree with that... I've known of Paglia for nearly twenty years and she never struck me as particularly anti-male, even though she calls herself a feminist and a lesbian. In fact, if all feminists were like her, I wouldn't have any problem with it as an ideology.
/r/MensRights30/12/13 01:35 AM

Paglia calls herself a "dissident feminist and the Democratic Party, with which I remain stubbornly registered. So unless you're arguing that she's a "mole", she identifies as both a feminist and a Democrat. Both of which are quite capable of exhibiting all sorts of crazy. And in case you're going to jump to conclusions, I don't identify myself as any of: a feminist an MRA a Democrat a Republican

Paglia is a feminist who votes Democratic most of the time... so I'm confused by your comment.

Hey Nivea, here's an idea. Do two ads. Run them in rotation. One ad has the fatherless family. The other ad has a motherless family. Best Wishes, osbe. Or will that alienate feminists and break the narrative of man as sperm donor and bank account?

So here's the summary then: article about a man setting himself and his child on fire out of spite. /u/typhonblue says: me pointing out a situation in which women act more amoral and violent than men? You claimed evil. I didn't. I said that I subscribed to a cliche; you've read all sorts of things into that that I don't. as for what was I originally "arguing", you can scroll back up and re-read it, there's no need for me to copy/paste.

To be honest I'm not surprised that a man who pedistalizes women also thinks of them as some sort of primal horror at the same time. You're repeating your somewhat strange argument that being critical of your original comment means that I'm putting women on a pedestal. It's incorrect. I've noticed that pedistalizers love to believe that they're elevating creatures that are essentially sub-human and beneath them. And it's only their interest that gives them any worth at all. You just repeated a f…

Am I puncturing your vision of women as the "more moral gender"? That's a laugh. I subscribe to the cliche that the female of the species is more deadly (or at least more vicious) than the male. Are you so full of yourself that you assume that anyone who criticizes you is putting women on a pedestal? Evidently you are. What you are doing is making yourself look like an apologist for men even when men do evil by saying that when it comes to killing their kids, (to quote you) "Unlike mothers, fath…

While burning his son is inexcusable; the article says it was a hard divorce. Which gives the overall sense that it's somehow understandable. This action deserves nothing but condemnation. But that's OK if you didn't follow.

All-male colleges are looking like a good idea. Of course these colleges will have to be portrayed as a punitive measure against men (along the lines of "caging" these dangerous men) in order for it to be allowed, but for men's protection it seems like the best alternative.

People can change their mind and refuse sex at any time. The cynic would say that People women can change their minds and refuse sex at any time including afterwards. But the "boy" that Rebecca Watson wants, is not allowed to refuse, under pain of public mockery. Although at least she didn't reveal his real name... assuming any of this actually happened.

I don't know... I think it's funny. There's a man down in a hole in the ground with a shovel presumably fixing a water line or a sewer line for that woman and her child to use after they get done with their stroll around town work. I think we need more feminist jokes just like this one.

the whole concept of the patriarchy being a "male privilege" system has been fabricated by feminists. That would have been enough. I suspect you're being downvoted because you're talking straight feminist party-line by saying men are also victims of patriarchy. The idea that men are also victims of patriarchy is just a way deflect the real message which is that patriarchy means that men oppress women. "Male privilege system" is built in to the theory.

No, I don't mean it that way at all. My point is that something is making you worry that this could happen. That makes me suspect that at some level you feel like some sort of DV is a real possibility. I don't think most people feel that way about their relationships. I see that as a danger signal that shouldn't be ignored. As for the implicit question of "how can I control the actions of third-parties so that I don't get arrested even if I have done nothing wrong?" Well that question basically …

There is a law is here that if the police are ever called due to "domestic violence", then one of the two parties (aka the male) must go to jail. Can you quote the actual law here please? What you are citing sounds unrealistically vague, even for a "zero-tolerance" jurisdiction. If the police are called out by a third-party and BOTH of you insist that there is no domestic violence occurring (as opposed to simply an argument/dispute that might have gotten loud), it seems pretty unlikely that ther…
