Retail definitely, blue collar depends on what it is. In the south lots of girls are into blue collar guys so it could depend on the area too

I agree that their is no justifiable excuse, but that shouldn't be confused with no possible explanation. People have their reasons even if they are shitty reasons. Explanations and excuses are not the same thing. Behaviors can be explained without being excused.

He sounds like he's just generally apathetic. What do you care about in regards to the topic?

The guy had the choice to not nut in a chick he didn't want to have a kid with. We're all adults who should be responsible for our actions. Don't get me wrong, she shouldn't allow that to happen if she isn't on birth control and is definitely at fault as well. But a man should also take responsibility for his part and we as members of the same society should encourage this.

Well shit, I'm not saying you should weep for little billy because his dad left but we should definitely discourage that sort of degenerate behaviour.

Then obviously it would be the deadbeat who is in the wrong

Because that bastard grows up to be a member of your community and they vote for stupid shit and commit crimes. Just because you don't have to see it doesn't mean you aren't affected.

I absolutely am. They're both responsible. My point being that they'll rightfully say that single mothers poorly raise boys and then support the deadbeat in the same breath. It's completely hypocritical.

You can't claim to care about men if you think a boy growing up without his father is okay. That's total bullshit

Not sure who supprts deadbeats but I actively shame them and any morons that intentionally had kids with a guy they weren't married to if they can't afford it on their own

Are we not talking about social elitism? Because that's subject to change depending on what we value as a society. I poorly communicated my optimism about what those values might be

I should probably clarify that I don't say horrible things, I just talk about motorcycles and math too much.

I'm 6'7", fit, and working towards a STEM PhD while already making a decent amount and I think I'm not most women's idea of a unicorn, or at least not after I open my mouth. Your husband might actually be the one who found a unicorn, but either way good for you guys.

Oh I just don't see it the same way. I'm an optimistic person

That's funny, I always thought that my only real talent was pattern recognition. Unfortunately my friends don't care about math unless it's a practical application and my girlfriend hates it. I'm glad to hear that there are couples like you guys out there

You're not wrong, insecurity can be a bitch. I've had a hard time finding SO's that can understand I'm just a weirdo with an unhealthy obsession with math, and that drawing comparisons between us in that realm is never going to be fair

What's a relationship with someone that smart like? Is it any different?

Yeah I kind of dread the fact that being ambitious and trying to move up is just gonna take me away from doing something I actually enjoy and push me towards project management or some corporate nonsense. Hard to complain though

While it's certainly possible, that data set meant to represent the current state of the economy was almost a decade old when the article was published, not to mention it contained a recession. I'd wanna see a much larger data set, like 50 years, before I could be certain that wage mobility is steadily declining

Well yeah, in a meritocratic kind of way but social elitism is more like delusions of grandeur to me. Honestly just suprised to hear this from the Ayn Rand username. Obviously life isn't fair nor is it under any obligation to be but I'm not willing to accept social elitism as a reasonable thing to buy into

Yeah, I don't blame people for being ugly but it's probably your own fault if you were fat. Hardly a woman's fault for finding you less appealing when you don't take care of yourself

That's an interesting point, my dad was at sea most of my life so I barely know the guy but neither of my parents had degrees so it kept us fed and clothed. I'm not sure looking back that I'd want to miss out on my kids growing up but I understand that sometimes your options suck and he did the best he could. I'm a fairly new engineer too so the parallels there really got me thinking about what I'd do.

Seems like somewhat of an elitest point of view.

Has it really stagnated or is it just done differently now? I haven't seen any real proof that it's more difficult

I want them to actually accomplish things. I'd rather have a kid that cured a disease, invented something, or wrote a great book than one that went to harvard and then just made money at some prestigious financial firm. Merit from ones accomplishments will always mean more than some hollow symbol

While that's true, people who relied on spears for defense rarely encountered people with guns. In fact it's almost a prerequisite for there to be physically capable people taking care of things so that highly intelligent people can work on things like guns. It's a balancing act. Even today there are elite athletes that get by entirely on physical prowess and make plenty of money. Sexual selection would be concerned with results more so than specific traits. There are plenty of geniuses that die…

If that's the case then it must be hard for women with self inflated egos

As much as I dislike it you're probably right about most people caring about nonsense like social class, but I'm not convinced that it has any real bearing on your future. Other than famous family names, which is just brand recognition, how is my social class going to help or hinder me in the west?

I think it's interesting that a conventionally masculine man that does manual labour would be seen as low status whereas you can get a high status man that couldn't do a pushup. Not sure how women reconcile status and physical attraction but it seems counterintuitive to me

What makes you think that a four year degree is proof of that?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:55 PM

Well if you're already wealthy what benefits do you really get from being in the social upper class? I'd agree that old money looks down on new money but why should anyone care?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:53 PM
2

It seems to be that way but I think it's unjustified for the most part. There are plenty of blue collar jobs that make more than you will with the average liberal arts degree.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:49 PM
1

Why a liberal arts degree?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:44 PM

Is the degree the component of status or is it the job that comes with it? If someone with a degree makes less than someone who doesn't have a degree, who has a higher status?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:42 PM
2

Could you explain why you feel that way?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:39 PM
1

Could you elaborate on that? Where do you think this idea came from? I was under the impression that at least in most western countries social mobility was possible within a single generation.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:37 PM
1

Yeah, I tend to think the same way

I'm of the mindset that college degrees should mainly just be pursued by people who want to work in fields that require certification ie. Doctors, engineers, lawyers etc. I get that people want to learn about various topics but I would suggest buying a book and reading it yourself instead of paying someone to lecture you about it. Honestly I could rant about college being a scam all day

It's not great to compare things that have no nuance like height to something like earnings and education. Quality and area of education matter, and for earnings the amount is important but you also have to consider the time spent working as well as the actual job. Many women would rather have an SO that makes a little less but actually has free time to spend with them.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/19 07:24 PM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
