Thank you. IFS actually incorporates reparenting. Haven't gotten to that stage yet as I have some pretty strong protectors that aren't allowing full access to the exiled part (wounded child) yet.

I listened to a lot of Joseph Goldstein several years back. I really like Soto Zen too, especially Dogen. I understand what you mean about being led astray and that's why I gravitated away from it recently. I felt like it became a distraction and wasn't helping. I will look into Kaira-Jewell Lingo. Thanks!

Thanks. I have only briefly touched on the modular mind model in relation to neuroplasticity. I will look into it some more. If you have any recommended resources please let me know. Most of my readings have been more Zen Buddhist in nature and the hardcore nature of most of them doesn't really resonate with me. Thich Nhat Hanh's concepts and writings tie into IFS therapy pretty neatly so I plan to read more of his writings. I have debated back and forth on adding BW vs. maintaining current body…

Your inner critical voice is there to help you, like all the aspects of your personality. They are survival skills from earlier times, programs left running when the context that made them necessary has past. Personalize them. Talk to them. Ask them what they're trying to protect you from - literally, have conversations with yourself. Once you acknowledge what you're trying to tell yourself, and resolve to address those concerns, the voices often subside. This right here is gold. It is also the …

3 of my herniations with a bruised spinal cord happened playing football in college. I was told I would definitely require surgery it was just a matter of time. A few years ago someone ran a red light and I T-boned him going 50mph. I was in bad shape after that accident and the new scan showed 5 herniations and permanent damage on my spinal cord. A few rounds of epidural spinal injections were the only thing that kept me off the operating table then. IFS is Internal Family Systems- a type of the…

I just read through some of your OYS. You sure give a lot of advice (with shit talk sprinkled in) for a guy that is "still fat" with a "binge eating disorder" that can't even get his dick sucked by his wife. I'm open to input from anyone that has something constructive to say but you're one of the last retards here I would listen to. You can call me a "self-help guzzling dweeb" all you want, but it's obvious you're asking about the type of therapy for your own binge eating disorder. How did your…

Not rubbing anything in people's faces. That's why the sentence ended with "so far". Book is Self-Therapy and style is Internal Family Systems. Sounds hokey but goes into childhood trauma and the defense mechanisms employed by parts of your psyche as a child that carry on into adulthood.

Thanks for running this again this year. Really appreciate it as this is the first year I'm officially doing it and documenting it. For this Week I have started reaching out to friends I have been losing contact with lately and checking in. I already joined a golf league last month and I'm meeting new people there. Reached out to a couple neighbors and did happy hour with one last night. Going to continue to make an effort going forward to reach out and be a better friend to those relationships …

Thanks for the feedback. As I replied to Blarg above, I care more about the boundary being crossed than the apology. I removed my time and attention to make sure the boundary doesn't get crossed again. If it doesn't get crossed again then apology is a moot point. When my kids break a rule, there is a punishment. Just because they say they're sorry doesn't mean the punishment goes away. I bet half the time they are just sorry they got caught. I expected her to be an adult, be objective, keep prom…

I appreciate your feedback and understand it's not the only way. There are many paths to get there but my GPS is headed to that destination and I will find a way to get there. I'm talking about internal peace as it's what I'm completely in control of. The boundaries I set for those around me will help to ease the transition. For example- last night my teenager came into my bedroom upset about something and was emotional and acting shitty. I calmly said, "Stop, go back to your room and get your e…

I fully expect a storm of shit tests, comfort tests and shitty comfort tests. Peaceful, drama-free home is a need and will be the end goal. If going through the storm is the path to attain this then that's what I will march through. I will have this, even if it eventually means living by myself.

I did an InBody scan last month that put me at 12.8% bodyfat. Using the picture bodyfat reference, I think I'm closer to 15% than 13%. I couldn't find any DEXA near me so I'm trying to schedule one (left message at facility) at the end of the month when I'm out of town. So recalculating at 15% bodyfat (186 lbs) I plan to lose 9 pounds of fat to get me to 10%. My current RMR is estimated ~ 1900 so I will shoot for that in daily calories. Goal weight at the end is 180 (9lbs loss and hopefully 3 lb…
