One of the things they look into is how much earning potential she has. Any Master's degree will be considered in that equation. She's expected to work barring a disability or other valid reason for being unemployed

Walk away. Don’t say anything, don’t take anything. Get a new bank and have your pay put there. Then file for divorce. Most importantly, NEVER SPEAK TO HER WITHOUT A FRIENDLY WITNESS!!! And that’s only if you have to talk to her. If you can communicate through a lawyer that would be best. This may seem harsh but compare that to being falsely accused and arrested for a crime. Don’t give her or her family anything to use against you. Keep your head down until the divorce is finalized. Edit: spelli…

This is exactly how my ex treated me. If you want to save the marriage you should get into couple’s therapy and each of you get individual therapists. I’m my case my ex was a covert narcissist and I am codependent. I lost all of my friends and cut off most of my family because of her. 20 years later and repairing those relationships is hard. They understand but it’s still hard.

My daughter used to scream and grab the door frame when I took her to my ex's place. We split custody 50/50 for a long time but my kids always wanted to be with me instead of her. It had less to do with me and more to do with her lack of attention when they were there. Her husband was more important to her. Kids are allowed to miss both parents and it's our job to support them, even if it hurts us. Besides, if they didn't want to be there at all then they would have said so in the beginning. Edi…

I suggest you don't jump in "head first". Good point. I don't have any plans to marry again. I just meant that I won't shy away from dating women even if my divorce hasn't been finalized for at least a year. I have too many goals now to let another person have an opinion about when and how I can achieve them.

I really think it depends on the person and the circumstances. I'm almost done with my second divorce but we haven't spoken to or seen each other since I had her arrested for domestic violence. I tried to start dating again after about 3 months thinking I was ready. I wasn't and it ended badly for both of us. It's been over a year since then and I've avoided it altogether so I can get my shit straight first. One thing I've learned is that I'm codependent. The wife I'm divorcing now is actually t…

I wish I had figured that out before I married my second wife. 18 years, first 10 were okay, last 8 were a nightmare.

You sure you weren't married to my ex? I feel you on this one. I had a lot of the exact same issues with my narcissistic wife. Especially when I tried to talk to her about my issues. She would just use that as a way to make me feel bad then gaslight until I accepted her point of view. My issue didn't even have to be related to any conversation we were having it was just her, "Yeah, but you..." comment and proceeded to use the things I told her against me, like they were weaknesses instead of thi…

I'm hoping I won't need one. I was hearing the same in costs. But $350/hr and a $5000 retainer are WAY out of my league. I just filed the divorce papers I put together from a packet my county's family court puts together, had her served with copies of the filed petition and now I have 9 days left to get served her response. If I'm not served then the judge sets a date to tell me when the divorce will be finalized. Edit: Grammar Edit 2: If I am served and she's fighting me I'll have to get a loan…

Makes sense. Is there some way to get a mediator to work out a parenting plan you can get notarized? It's better than nothing and it would show her signing something. I just can't see her telling the truth to a judge when you tell them about a verbal agreement on something like that. Turns into a "he said, she said" scenario. I know in WA state that the county family courts provide a mediator to keep a disagreement or unresolved issue out of the court if it isn't needed.

Do you have to file the separation agreement as co-petitioners or can you file as the Petitioner and her the Respondent? If you can be the Petitioner then you can submit the first parenting plan with it for 50/50. If she wants to fight it then she has to go through the process of a counter. My first ex threatened me that way too so I filed first and got 50%. That ended up at 100% 11 years later. Edit: Punctuation

I'm 99% positive my ex was unfaithful a number of times, but I can't prove it. I was in the same boat where my gut said she was but her gaslighting me proves otherwise. I let it go for almost 20 years though, you know, "because of the kids." It's a shitty way to feel but remember, she's the one who made the bad choices, not you. The lack of confidence after being gaslit for so many years is awful but I've been in therapy since the separation 16 months ago and I'm finally starting to feel like th…

I would buy her a full day at a spa as a gift and schedule it for her. Then when she is there you can pack up and go. I agree with the idea about getting the police involved if she gets abusive. Blocking you from leaving is a crime in most places, it's called "Unlawful Restraint" where I live. I'm in the middle of my second divorce right now and I had my ex arrested for domestic violence when she hit me. This was after a lot of fair warning of what the consequences of that would be if she contin…
