If you go to college, join a club. When i first went into college i was socially awkward and very shy till i joined a club. This brought me to meet new people who got me going to raves (soberly) and got me dancing and going to conventions (im in a anime club) if theres an anime club id say check them out if not others. The reason i say anime club though is nerds nowadays are not shy so they will break you out of your shell immediatly
