People want a lot of things, it doesn't give them a right to have it. There's nothing wrong with being a sperm donor, but the system is not nonsense as it's there to protect all parties in exactly this type of situation. It also makes sure that the child has access to important things like the medical history and, arguably, identity of the donor.

If you actually read into the subject you'll find that the basis of the proposals is that imprisoning anyone for less than 12 months is counterproductive, and they're paying particular attention to women as they're heavily represented in this category. They are wrong if they're not also applying the same to men, but the basis is a good move in criminal justice if it's applied fairly.

It doesn't invalidate it at all, that's just a knee-jerk reaction to the imbalance. Whether or not it's a good idea is completely separate from whether or not they apply it fairly. Yes they should do it for women, and they should do it for comparable male offenders too.

To be fair, I agree with them. I think what they're proposing would be a far more effective system of rehabilitating offenders to reduce the number of additional crimes committed in the future. The question people here should be asking is why are they only suggesting that it be applied to women?

While I see where you're coming from, to be honest I lean towards the opinion that people just shouldn't donate sperm or eggs. Yeah, it is terrible that some people can't have kids of their own, but having a child isn't a right, and creating one deliberately in complicated circumstances where you know one biological parent is going to be completely absent before you even conceive is just selfish. There are plenty of kids out there who need adopting, and whose lives will otherwise quite possibly …
