Some material that touches on this concept really well is a podcast by Adam Ruins Everything. The episode is called Matrimony Myths. It talks about how marriage has only just recently been about love in society, whereas historically it has almost exclusively been a legal, social, and financial arrangement. It also touches on different aspects of relationships and "romantic love". It's ~30-45 minutes long, if I remember right. Definitely worth it, in my opinion.

I support this as a proactive damage control. It would probably be best to not even push him any more. He's had his soul broken a little bit, and if he wants to turn to the book on his own, that's the way it'll have to happen. After the damage from what happened in OP has subsided, the dad might stop one day and, in passing, think "hey, maybe I'll take a look at that book my son gave me. I think maybe he was kind of right about some of what he was telling me." It might take a week, a month, or a…

Maybe, but I feel like the theory behind it is still relevant and compatible to the real world.

I agree, I think if he could see this sub as a source of self-improvement info rather than a vitriolic community that shuns him, it might be just what he needs. I've been in his place and was skeptical of this community, but once I took on a open-minded and information-hungry outlook, I started to see it for what it really is(or what it is for me, anyway) - a wealth of knowledge on self-improvement and ways to reach goals. I've learned from NA meetings that it helps us keep what we have by givin…

I didn't see this comment, so thanks for including it. Gave me a few laughs and it makes some good points. I think the article as a whole is somewhat self-defeating because it seems to imply that the role of men is determined by the views of the society they're a part of, rather than their actions and willpower. I feel like it also implies some inherent need to treat everyone as if they can't make their own decisions when it comes to sex.

I think I see what you were trying to do with the "high maintenance" line(force her to focus on your good qualities), but it comes off to me as somewhat needy. You have to remember that she should be seeking validation from you, not the other way around. On validation, you've already given each girl some with your very first message -complimenting their pictures, immediately tipping the scales in her favor. It's like giving the hamster a treat without it doing a trick. Girls put up pictures they…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
