Sorry to burst your bubble but Japan is deeply traditional. Women in the labor market have a small shelflife (like how euro women hit the wall at 30) so its in Japanese society to get freaked by this sort of thing. Jap girls are meant to be pretty not work hard so to read about a jap girl killing herself questions the Jap social mores.
