I have experienced this - when I was in 7th grade there were two courses, robotics and creative/sewing. I signed up for robotics class, but was put in the creative/sewing class because "we need more girls in tech and you're not a girl". As a 12 year old I didn't understand what gender politics were, so I just thought it was weird I was put in a class with 25 other girls and nobody complained about that, but hey. nah, it was more or less just a cheap shot at Java. Java has shitloads of jobs, but it also has large problems due to backwards compatibility, as do most languages. It's not a great language, but it's OK - it depends on what you want to do. Java has its strong ecosystem for writing web servers / services, while C# is more desktop- / Windows oriented, C++ is for high-performance apps like games or embedded systems and JavaScript / Ruby / PHP is more webdev-focused.
