No problem. Keep seeing the therapist even if you feel like you’re doing well. There will be hard days and there is always more you can learn about yourself. I think you’re probably still a little soon from the divorce to call yourself healed and quit therapy. I hear you on wanting to date and feel connection again. The advice I’m going to give is somewhat hypocritical because I was in a relationship about 3.5 months after the divorce was finalized, but I divorced very young and the marriage onl…

I shared my success story with a post in this sub somewhat recently. Feel free to click on my profile and scroll down just a little bit. I’m not sure if my link works, but I’ll paste it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Divorce\_Men/s/H093VtDSQp I had the same issue. Divorce was her choice and not mine. I am very spiritual and only believed divorce was the right move in instances of extreme abuse or other areas where the church is involved and recommends it. The civility of the divorce is a blessin…

Hey man, just admitting that you struggle with this is a big first step. After my divorce I struggled through this as well. It took half a year for the suicidal ideation to stop. I too planned where I would go to buy a gun, how I would remove my pets from my house, how I would say goodbye, etc. I promise you that life gets better and it will stop. Just you posting this is your mind actively saying “I’m scared. I don’t want to die. I just want help.” The best thing you can do is get help. Don’t b…

First, I understand your desires are not being met. That is hard. I hope as a man you can approach your wife with as much compassion and understanding as possible. Having children is an incredible experience that changes her body forever. Can she work on things and develop better habits? Absolutely. But marriage is a TEAM effort. You vowed to support her in sickness and in health, for better or for worse. So let me push back a little bit. What are you doing to help her? Are you able to provide a…

Antidepressants, drugs, and not being in the right place mentally can certainly all play a role. I think you need to get a full blood panel and have a serious talk with a doctor on this one. The rest of the comments have discussed this at length, so I won’t belabor the point. But what I will add here is STOP MASTURBATING. I know a lot of guys do this after divorce. I get it. You miss intimacy, you miss sex, we glorify things that happened in the past at times. But your death grip and constant go…

You can’t be the hero in everyone’s story. If she is going to make you a villain, then let it happen. The people that matter know who you truly are. Let go of her and what she thinks of you and truly focus all of that energy on yourself. That is when you will truly find growth. This goes for many things in life. We can only control ourselves, not other people. Instead, invest time in others that think highly of you.

Brother, I think there is inevitably a lot of damage from that psychologically that I hope you take time to work on with a professional. Just make sure sex, drugs, or other bad habits are not being used as a bandaid. Wishing you good health and happiness.

I just don’t know if this is something you “get out of the way with” in one go then the next encounters are guaranteed to be successful. The only reason I only had one bad encounter was because that was my girlfriend, the next times were all with the same person, and I was building a real connection again. I think having a new person again would have freaked me out too. Everyone is different though. I’ve never been one for random hookups. People who are used to random hookups may find this easie…

I know this post isn’t directed to me because I never did this, but I’m going to give you my two cents anyway. I learned in my divorce that loss of physical touch was a very real and difficult thing to overcome. You think you miss sex, but it’s more than that. You miss CONNECTION. The hand holds, the touch of your shoulder, cuddling at night. These are all things a sex worker will not replace. I’m worried even if you go through with this you will just realize that physical touch without connecti…

Trust is easier after doing the internal work. Took years of therapy for me to be able to truly trust again. But also trust must be earned. Treat the first meet ups like you’re just getting to know someone and let them earn your trust. Be picky on who is deserving of your time and energy and uphold your personal boundaries. Best of luck to you, friend

Wishing you all the best. I’m so glad this was helpful. Keep doing your best and don’t shy away from doing the hard things. Your greatest growth and success lies in places where you feel discomfort.

I used to feel like you. Lots of resentment and hate for my situation that flowed outward. I hope you are able to find forgiveness in your heart. Not for your former partner, but for yourself so you do not have to carry this burden with you. You will eventually reach a point where you do not feel the urge to comment like this. What you express outwardly to the world is almost always a reflection of what we feel inside. I wish you happiness and healing despite the way you have spoken to me. Best …

I appreciate it, and I feel for you, brother. It is the worst pain I have known. Keep doing the next best thing, and enjoy small victories. Every time you make a step forward, even the smallest of steps, you are closer to your goal of becoming the man you want to be. From a favorite song of mine (music and my religion spoke to me a lot during this time): Give up your heart left broken, And let that mistake pass on. ‘Cause the love that you lost, wasn’t worth what it cost And in time you’ll be gl…

Yeah and so what? We have unique circumstances where marriage needed to occur sooner rather than later. I just don’t feel the need to spill my entire life story here to bitter Redditors that apparently know more about my life than me. I’m also older now and when you know you know. I don’t need years of my life to figure it out anymore.

Yes, maybe I didn’t explain well enough. I dated a first woman for a year and a half after taking a year after the marriage. Did not propose to her. Things just ran its course. Dated a second woman after divorce a 6 months later. Lasted a little over 2.5 years and I proposed to her. Things fell apart shortly after learning about infidelity. Then I waited another 5-6 months and started dating my now wife.

I also say this with respect—you do not have enough information to make that determination, and I only proposed in one of the two relationships before getting married. I proposed before I learned about the infidelity, and the relationship ended shortly thereafter. I do not think proposing is a sign of weakness or not being healed. It happens naturally when you feel like you are ready for the commitment, and I was at that time. We dated for 2.5 years before I proposed. I don’t regret it at all. 4…
