California is a bit wacky with its sexual crime statutes, and they have about a dozen in play, each dealing with a specific slice of criminality, instead of one common statute or a smaller number that are broader in focus. This is heavily dependent upon jurisdiction. Canada, for example, has no legal 'rape'. It's all sexual assault, with different degrees (summary, felony, aggravated, with a weapon). Whatever jurisdiction the news report is in, the nomenclature used by the court system there should be what's used in the report. The double standard isn't around whether they actually gawk or not. Pretty much any reasonable adult knows that both men and women will gawk and check people out, especially if there's something salient. The double standard is that men are castigated for it, but women engage in it just like men do. You never hear about women objectifying men, just the other way around, but these women clearly objectified that waiter.

Just checked Alexa. Vice has been flat for a year, and is now started into its decline. In fact, if Facebook, YouTube and Reddit weren't consistently feeding them traffic, they'd probably be more or less moribund already. Let them double and triple down on the bigotry.
