To be blunt, If i see someone being accosted in a public place I would not intervene. Not only are you inserting yourself into a situation that you may be outnumbered, You do not know anything about the situation. you could possibly wind up being injured or killed in the process. If force winds up having to be used you could also quite possibly be the one in handcuffs. The law is not on your side especially in the state that I live in. At most calling the police in a situation that looks like it…

Yes it is necessary and here is why. Their are consequences for not registering (fair or not) and I would rather have the word put out their so somebody gets the word than have them not get the word and find out the hard way that they cannot get financial aid or a federal job ect.

Well, Feminism tends to use issues other than gender to advance their goals and also the main target of feminism is the strait white male. So I can see how the topic of race would come up from time to time in this circle.

If I remember correctly The marines on the presidential guard detail or whatever they call it come from the 03xx(infantry) mos, meaning that in theory their would not be a female marine present to perform this task.

However, The Male Marines were issued an all weather coat(it's part of the basic issue) which could have(and should have) been worn with the dress blue uniform in inclement weather. In the particular incident that seems to be making headlines, the marines were holding an umbrella in the performance of their duties. it's really not a big deal. I'm a Marine myself and Frankly despite the fact that I have ideological differences with the president If he asked me to hold up an umbrella for him, I wo…

While I agree with AManAlones statement, I do not quite agree with your conclusion. I would agree with the targets of human silhouettes themselves would increase things like accuracy and reaction times, I do not believe that it helps overcome an impulse to hurt people. After all not everyone who plays call of duty is a cold blooded killer. Now where I do think I can find common ground and agree with your conclusion is, When you incorporate those targets with targets that bleed and other tactics …

Well on that fine day when it is nessessary to distinguish me from others you may ask me how I wish to be styled. However something tells me that you will not be needing to do this. it's not hypocritical. I didn't say you couldn't identify yourself as you see fit. If you want to call yourself a cis-male then do it. I'll identify myself as I see fit. You can label yourself anything you want and I can respect that. but, you do not have the right to label me. If you cannot understand that concept that is your problem not mine.

The best advice I can give you on the matter is well, If you don't like people Identifying you as "cis" Don't let them. If you prefer the term "Strait" or "first gender" "Zabadongle" then so be it but, You have to be the one to let people know "hey i don't identify as cis I Identify as X." Now I know that people will sometimes look at you funny if you do this or sometimes they won't adhere to your request. My method dose not always work. While I think it is very important to have male teachers. I'm actually against this, I've always been an advocate of hiring the most qualified for the job. instead of setting up a quota of sorts maybe they should set up some kind of campaign or program that will attract males into the education field. There current set up really fucks with my head as do all affirmative action type programs. As a black man I want to be the best candidate for employment because i'm the most qualified NOT, because …

Agreed we don't have time for partisan politics within the movement. I say this as a republican who does not agree with some of the leftist ideology but, I like to put that aside when it comes to men's rights. We can always argue the finer points of our politics at other times but, when it comes to the collective "us" the issues that the men's rights movement brings up are really cross spectrum.

Well, It's just I've seen quite a few things on this sub that point out how the feminist movement is basically portraying Stereotypical males as bad. My point here is maybe the MRM could push for a redefinition of the term and show stereotypical maleness as a good thing. personally I think being self reliant is just common sense not just being a male stereotype.
/r/MensRights21/01/13 07:10 AM
2

The question to ask here is. Is being self reliant and mentally solid being overly manly? I don't think that passes the smell test for me personally. Is this something that the MRM needs to promote? -edit- I feel like I am being overly vague. Almost to the point where I feel like I am trying to teach a bad philisophy course haha
/r/MensRights21/01/13 06:09 AM

It depends. if the "overly manly man" attitude is causing the problem of soldiers coming forward to get help then no it's not.

I can't argue with your statistics. you make a vaild point, I do believe however that PTSD is probably not the biggest factor in the suicide rate but it does play a part. Nor do I think it all spawns from participating in armed conflict but that could play a part to. I think it has more to do with the "Man up" and internalizing of feelings which leads to feelings of hopelessness. Hey, I'm just trying to be devils advocate here. The main question in my mind here is: Is the veteran suicide rate due to Male privilege or some other gender discrimination? or is simply due to the fact that there are more men in the armed forces which would mean more men than women would be veterans and thus a disproportionate number of male suicides. Like I said I am a vet myself so veterans issues are quite close to me. Maybe this is something we should look into and see if it an issue that w…

Well you make a good point and I think that those points are a contributor to the reduction of battle deaths. I do not think that that those are the only reasons, The "Man-up" attitude is rampant in the military and although there are attempts to try and get people who may have issues to come forward and seek help, their is a huge stigma associated with coming forward and sometimes attempts are half hearted.

I fail to see how this is a men's rights issue female service members kill themselves to. I will concede that the numbers between the sexes are disproportionate however, is that because of legal gender imbalance? or is it simply because more men join the military then women? Don't misunderstand me though. I'm a veteran myself and this issue is near and dear to my heart. I'm just hoping that I can play devils advocate for a bit and see if this is something worth the MRMs attention.

Hire people based on ability and skill not trivial things like plumbing or skin color. Now you say that you do not care who is to blame but, you sure seem to put a lot of the guilt on white people. That is a good question. My two cents: you need both or at least you need to be able to push through the pain.
/r/MensRights26/11/12 11:53 PM

I just thought I would add that although the average weight of a solider is 166 lbs if you factor in the body armor that would put the average soldier above 200 lbs. The military may not be the only one that is slow to change with this issue. While the goal of making it so a soldier carries no more than 50 lbs is noble. It takes time to develop gear that still does the job and is lighter and meets all of the specifications that are required.
/r/MensRights26/11/12 11:46 PM
8

Well you can adjust for the differences in body weight. if you are a smaller person your equipment is going to be smaller and weight less. but the average Infantryman will carry about 70ish pounds with a full load. I agree the tests are ruff however, they have to be. that is the equipment that we have at this time so anybody in the infantry should have to be able to pass the test. the infantry lives off of what it can carry. So if you can't carry your gear you are useless and ineffective for tha…

Actually I was told I had to have my weapon no more than one arms distance from me at all times. Men are told to be able to stick up for themselves from the day they are born. So yes they are told to go to self defense courses. Men are encouraged to go out in groups and as a matter of fact we do it regularly. Men get afraid of the dark sometimes to. I understand, I just thought I would give my two cents on the abortion part of the equation is all. Frankly if I had to choose between the two options I would just conscript both sexes because it's the only fair way I can think of resolving the situation.

Yes you are correct however, If that argument is used as justification to put women out of combat arms MOS's and put into "safe" jobs Will only continue the Male Privilege of getting blown up for your country. I doubt physical strength is going to lose it's value in the infantry even with that gear carrying robot. You still have to carry weapons and you still have to carry casualties.

That's what I am afraid of I don't want the rise of the MRM to lead to a down fall of women. I would just rather have equality.

Finally I can speak on something I have direct knowledge on. Now For starters I don't think banning abortion is in any way shape or form a good idea. I would much prefer that women are simply forced to register for the draft or in countries that conscript serve time in the armed forces. It's only the right thing to do to apply the law equally. With that said let’s get to the meat of this exchange. You two are both right. Men on average are physically stronger than the average woman. However phys…

We know that mamas need to feed their babies. So does the military. The issue is not that they are doing something natural like breast feeding a kid. The issue is that they are violating the uniform regulations. That IS a big deal. It's not sexism to enforce the rules and regulations that those two women agreed to when they signed a contract. Frankly I don't support these two Airmen and I this this incident should be handled the same way the DOD handled the Issue with Sgt Gary Stein, General Dou…

You make a good point. the questions I ask when I vote on a new law are these: how far can this law be bastardized and degraded?(because that is where it will end up) How can the law being degraded hurt the little folk? Sure I'm all for punishments for people who commit crimes but I am always wary every time somebody says "we ought to have a law for X" because no matter the good intention that it starts with it will eventually become a crock of shit.

Its not as silly as you Think. Thank you for your service. I'm a Usmc vet myself even though I'm a veteran I still had to register for selective service. I've got nothing against women or men I'd just like the laws regarding selective service to be gender neutral and since you cannot sue unless their is an injured party. The easiest way to bring about a change in the law is to only hire those registered for selective service. That will give people the opportunity to make positive change hell. I'…

you would be correct except under title 10 usc the president may suspend the laws of retirement or separation for military members. lets be honest here people who retire are generally doing so after they finish their first 8 year obligation so forcing them to stay "for the good of the service" is an involuntary service.

I don't know how the Canadian government does things with the draft, but Ben from Canada would be very incorrect about the selective service in the US one only needs to read up on a little policy called Stop loss. If he thinks involuntary service has not happened in a while well there are about 100,000 Soldier,Sailors, Airmen, and Marines that served between September 2001 and January 2010 would disagree. there are also over 120,000 Airmen who during the campaign in Kosovo were stop lossed. My fix. Both parents pay a portion of income into an account that if for child support. the primary custodian of the child would use the money (and have to provide receipts) to support the child. When visitation occurs the ATM card. (or the check book) moves to the parent that has custody for that day. I do believe the receipts must be used to provide proof that the money being spent is for the child. Also I believe both parents should have to pay money into it.

All Selective service is is basically a list of all military aged males, in the event of a major war, the Selective service system has a list of males in place to call up and send to the department of defense. Every male must register in the US when he turns 18. It's bascially just the US government way of ensuring that they can conscript troops in the event of a major conflict.

while most western countries do not conscript at the moment. They all reserve the right too if I am not mistaken. I would disagree that wars have gotten less deadly. Quite frankly the statement is a bald faced lie. It's actually against Federal law to render a judgement against your VA benefit money. Seriously it's protected under title 38 USC 5301 "Nonassignability and exempt status of benefits." No you can still vote, but you won't be entitled to some benefits from the federal government if you do not register. Reddit seems to have a huge infatuation with the possibility of the draft. I find the worrying about it unfounded, although I agree females should have to sign up for it as well. the United States does not actually have the infrastructure in place to call up, train, and store a massive amount of draftees anymore the military simply does not have the space for them. No, you are correct there has not been a draft since the end of the Vietnam war and the switch to the all volunteer force. you are correct in your information about the Selective service.
