My GF is very hot and cold. Sometimes she is very sweet...but other times controlling. I've been with her for 10+ years and she wants to get married and have kids. Was anyone else in a similar situation before they got married?Do not do it. My relationship was very similar. Hindsight is a wonderful thing - I should have ended it before marriage and again before we had our son. Be brave and don’t settle, there is a whole world out there. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/05/22 05:53 AM
8 Mistakes Men Should Avoid During DivorceGood advice. She always made me feel so guilty towards her and my son that I ploughed money out (and still do). | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/05/22 05:16 AM
HELP!!!Great post and very accurate! | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/04/22 04:30 PM
HELP!!!It is fucking hard and doesnt happen overnight. Itll take a lot of work and effort on your side. But it is achievable. Have you confronted the issues assertively that are causing you to be unhappy with your wife? | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/04/22 01:49 PM
I thought I passed the point of getting hurt againYou gotta get a grip or this shit will eat you. Being a victim is easy. Manning up is hard. Trust me and all the others, we’ve been there | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/04/22 08:12 PM
I thought I passed the point of getting hurt againIts all good bro. The next one will be even better. Head up, elbows out and move forward. You’ve got this. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/04/22 07:53 PM
Periodic reminder about the Golden Uterus SyndromeGreat article. Sums up my ex wife. Everytime i think there is a positive change, the cycle kicks back in. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/03/22 12:22 PM
Am I the victim or the villain? Help me understand.all the best to you bro! | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/07/21 05:47 PM
Am I the victim or the villain? Help me understand.Let her go. The relationship is not healthy and likely will be unsalvageable at this point. Go for therapy. Rebuild yourself better and be a great dad and role model to your son. Stop slapping women (not judging, just learn from it and don’t do it again). | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/07/21 04:58 PM
Can’t decide if the dream’s a nightmare.Get therapy, start rebuilding yourself. Interesting and exciting things are great for your kids, but what they really need is love and respect. Show them that first and foremost. Your are their dad and have a connection that cannot be replaced unless you destroy it. You can do it, stop wallowing in fear and instead move forward, become a better man and father. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/07/21 08:02 PM
Never let her see you bleedLearning to cry and feel your emotions is a good thing. Also fair to play to you for letting your other lad go as well. I know a few blokes who would have forced them to stay in the car. Being reasonable and respectful with others needs is so key in all of this. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/07/21 04:47 AM
Men, is this fair?I believe your deal sounds reasonable with exception to the pension. Not sure why you value this over child support (my assumption would be that its a large sum) but I guess don't know how old your children are. My ex-wife (who sounds like your husband from the abusive perspective) did things similarly to the above, keeping it out of courts but splitting property equity 50/50 and I agreed to pay child support at my countries rate even though she has gone back to her own country. However the main… | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/07/21 04:45 AM
Regrets?Regret every day brother (but there is a child there too). Learn to accept the regret and try to live your life - at least thats what i do. If you have kids, always worth trying but as above you need boundaries and communication. My ex wife was emotionally abusive, she tried to change but it never really lasted. This is where the guardrails and honest conversations are key. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/05/21 05:51 PM
2 kids and I'm worriedBrother, my ex wife hated my family as well. Its a very horrible situation. Unless there are real issues (abuse), two people should accept eachother for who they are. I am 3 years since leaving and its still very hard. Very hard. I miss my son deeply as i dont see him too much (1000 miles apart). But be the best dad you can. This wont be easy. Fix yourself and find happiness and then you will get there. Thats what im trying to do. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/04/21 06:40 AM
How did the reaction of inlaws impact divorce?Your situation is very similar to mine. I fully agree with the posts below that say if this is on her terms it won't change. I left my ex-wife (in the wrong way) 3 years. She was very similar to yours, most probably worse (she'd often make my family apologise to her over irrelevant things (dog eating a biscuit at my parents for example), didn't let my parents see our son when he was born etc. Ask yourself this, putting your son to the side: are you happier when she is around, or happier when you… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/03/21 03:42 PM
I am a 30 year older man Recently separated and trying to understand my chances at finding loveCan someone post the content? For some reason my isp ip addresses in Poland are banned. Ive asked the mod for an unblock. | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/03/21 06:48 AM
How far did you move away from your children if you didn’t have primary residential custody?Mine moved to another country (her home Country) with our son. 700 miles away with a sea crossing in between. With covid this has absolutely sucked. Brexit will make it harder. Video calling is great but nothing makes up for being there. Stay as close as you can realistically but what I will say is always do your best and show your kid/s how much they mean to you and maybe things can work out ok! | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/01/21 11:15 PM
MiserableAt least try going for therapy together. The death of her mum is a huge and shocking loss. Not saying it warrants her being abusive, but a new baby plus her mum dying is alot of change. I walked away from my ex wife and my son, and it really sucks. Looking back i always ask if i did everything i couldve done (and one always will, i guess). | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/02/20 11:59 AM
Divorce has come up before and I think it’s getting closer. I can’t help but feel guilty when I think about itDo not make my mistake! I was in a similar position due to overwhelming guilt and it did nothing to help. We then had a child which made it much worse, and i ended up leaving when my son was almost 2. You either need to talk to her about changing, and stay because you love her and want to be with her, or go. Feel guilty to yourself first before anyone else - good advice someone gave me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/01/20 01:37 PM
Anyone left and had long distance between them and kids? How did it work?Sorry to hear about her behaviour. How old are the kids? And how old when you moved? | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/01/20 12:51 PM
Anyone else divorced, or seeking divorce, for this reason?Yes and its incredibly hard. People told me to end it years ago but due to overwhelming guilt (thought of hurting her by leaving), her mother dying, our Roman Catholic childhood, I didn’t. We had a child 3.5 years ago and i left 2 years ago. We get on much better to be honest. She has since admitted she was also completely unhappy. We get on well and put our son first. It is really fucking hard with children in the mix! | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/12/19 07:15 AM
Need help, on the brink. Why does she think you lie? Because she controls and you try to please? | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/12/19 10:11 AM
