It's an uphill battle because theres a crapload of people that are not around 20y-old, and most of those outside of that very narrow parameter actually do equate feminism with fighting for equality of the sexes, not specifically women's rights.

Here's the thing. Feminism is what we make feminism be. If you let them make it about only women, it will be about that, even though the word itself is accepted as being for everybody. So you'll fight an uphill battle. But if you make the real meaning be what the popular meaning is, you'll fight a much easier battle.

If your issue is optics, I would actually just try to convey that "I'm not anti-feminist, I'm more feminist than you, because the feminism I was taught about is about equality of the sexes in search of a better future, while the feminism you proffess is revenge of the women of today against the men lf yesterday." That way, you make clear you're the one actually trying to make things better

While I think you're on the right track, I think we need to stop putting all the blame on the algorithm, because it really makes it look like we still don't want to recognize the reality that this kind of discourse existe in real life and many men have contact with it. The algorithm just inflates how much they'll encounter it

Hard agree on the protector part. Every time someone defines positive masculinity, it boils down to, ironically, the very gender roles that men are forced into today, just worded nicely

That is, unfotunately, feminist' schrodingler's cat, which puts me and a great deal of men off. What feminism is, and specially it's relation to men and their social contributions and obligations, depends entirelynon what sounds good in the context of the conversation being held. Cant expect an egalitarian to support that
