I’ve gone through something very similar. You need to go gray rock. Plan your exit strategy with a lawyer. Usually a consultation is free to get all the cards out on the table with said lawyer. I thought waiting for things to get better would work. But in the end, I was being very naïve and manipulated. Also… I would also cut off any intimacy from your end. That’s assuming it’s not been cut off already by your wife.

I fell under the same category in terms of my wife making 2 1/2 times my salary, after 15 years of marriage. Be super careful. Get a lawyer, put all the cards on the table in terms of finances, assets, 401ks, and debts during the discovery phase. A good lawyer will have a good on boarding process in which all those things will get flushed out. You only get one chance of this before you sign the final paperwork. Don’t fall victim to the whole amicable Mr. nice guy scenario. This turns into a huge…

She's not "further along emotionally"... She's looking for validation from others any way she can get it.

Put 20% of my paycheck into 401k. Financially in a great situation with the house and retirement down the road... but I was not saving enough. Damn Ryobi and the tools i bought to fix up the house.

We all go through it. It’s even worse after the divorce because, for me personally, all the red flags that I missed start popping up when I looked back. For example, I always wondered why my ex-wife never took pictures of me with the kids. She must’ve only taken 7 pictures of me total in some fashion. She also never said please, thank you, or I’m sorry. After a while, I started picking up on that. My advice would be for you to figure out what you truly want in life. You don’t need rose colored g…

Agreed, stay in your lane. She needs to find her own support. Once we decided to divorce, while I was still living in the house, she kept throwing out random crap, such as “are trying to rush through this process to get to your girlfriend.” … even though I did not have a girlfriend. It’s amazing what they conjure up when they were the ones who wanted to walk away.

My really good friend of 40+ years took his life a few years back. My wife at the time, never asked how I was doing at any point afterward. I had coworkers at work that were more concerned than she was. Two years after the incident we were divorced. I’m sorry that you went through that, because it is a very lonely, feeling to not get support from the one person that you would think would love you the most.

I was talking to my mom over the holiday weekend about my recent divorce. She is 83 years old, and knew my ex-wife pretty well. One of the things that really struck me was how my mom brought up the fact that my ex-wife really didn’t have the ability to communicate or problem solve simple, marital issues. My mom laughed when I brought up the petty, little issues that were held against me over the last 15 years. One of the issues dated back over 15 years ago during the dating stage. All of this to…

I encourage you to read “dating essentials for men.” I also highly encourage you to focus on your limiting beliefs, and how the book addresses them. I feel it is not uncommon what you are going through.

No, my friend, you are not crazy. I’ve been where you are. My advice is for you to realize what you want in life. Spend time finding who you really are, and grab onto it. Be logical, and realize that you cannot control outcomes. Unfortunately, you are building up expectations of your wife, but expectations can just lead to future resentments. My wife kept saying she was gonna do everything in her power to work on the marriage, but never kissed or hug me (forget about intimacy) during that time. …

I completely agree with this comment. Even though my ex-wife was an introvert, I would always notice a happier side when we were at parties. I would always think to myself, “why doesn’t she act this way at home? “ I think this is always a great test to see where you stand.

My ex never apologized. And the one time in that she said, "thank you" was for cooking and cleaning on Father's Day, she couldn't look me in the eye.

I wanted to give you a little bit of love here. You are definitely not alone. Out of the blue, my wife basically said that she loved me, but she is not in love with me anymore. The reasons that she came up with were really, really stupid. Looking back there was no logic in it. She said that I never saved money, even though we had over $40,000 in our checking account for a rainy day (way higher than the national average). I also put 21% of my paycheck into 401(k). On top of that our financial pla…

Basically, years of walk away wife syndrome. After years of “working on it” I finally sat her down to have a moment to say that we have a great opportunity in front of us to really come together. I saw in her eyes that she was really not into it. I then asked her the question, “are you giving the love that you want to receive?“ She sat there in silence. I then decided to end it.

In my state, you need to keep status quo with your expenses as a couple. A lawyer should be able to walk you through this. You should also agree to no extra curricular egregious spending out of marital assets on either side until the judgment of divorce. Basically all bills are still paid out of marital assets. If you feel that the other person is going to take advantage of the finances, a lawyer should be able to dissuade that with some sort of court order while you go through the divorce proce…
