It doesnt make sense if hes cheating or if shes cheating. It should be a clean 50/50 split of any shared assets that were built durring the marriage; home, savings, etc. But any assets you brought to the marriage should be wholy yours, likewise for her. I personally thing the whole idea of marriage is so tilted towards the woman as to be absurd anyway.

Bruh... I'm not saying that any of that is right. Im not "white knighting", I'm saying that it's not a good idea to have the government enforce "adultery" or anything like it. My SIL considers her ex having had a female friend who he confided with durring their marriage to be cheating, an "emotional affair". Whats to stop that from becoming the law of the land? What about saying that you can't remarry after getting divorced? Where does that kind of thing end? What about no fault divorce? The pur…

Read the rest of my comments here... I dont think alimony should be a thing. I also think that marriage licenses should say something about fidelity if thats what they're for, but they arent. They are about money and assets.

Where in your marriage license did it say anything about infidelity? Nowhere. It is a financial contract so you can file your taxes together, make legal decisions for and with eachother and inherit the other persons wealth. Your vows were at your church, but thats not a contract. Its a pledge to the other person, but its not legally binding. If you dont fill out the license you arent married in the eyes of the law, if you dont exchange vows in front of a priest you arent married in the eyes of y…

What state are you in? How long is the alimony? Im still dipping my toes into the idea... my life is currently miserable. I am the only income in our house and am being treated like a used up mule.

Im sorry she hurt you, and I dont think its right that you have to pay her anything (I get child support if you dont have 50/50), but i firmly believe that the less the government is involved in our lives the better, that includes situations like yours. I hope you wont be stuck supporting her for long, shes a grown ass adult who should be able (and required) to support herself. I also hope you can get past the hurt shes caused you, youre better off now, even if you have to pay alimony for a whil…

You get satisfaction. Like I said, you dont want to live somewhere where morality is mitigated like that. It starts with enforcing adultery, then it becomes no no-fault divorce, then homosexuality becomes illegal, then mixed race marriage, then it becomes illegal to have sex out of wedlock. The government has no place in our bedrooms. Consenting adults should be allowed to torpedo their relationships if they want to. There are natural consequences, legal ones are over stepping.

I hope my STBX goes out and finds someone who treats her the way she wants. It seems to be an impossible standard with shifting goal posts and constant mood swings, so more power to her and whoever she finds. What I need is someone who is steady in their desire for me, with very few strings and caveats and breadcrumbs. I am not going to wait a whole year to try and find something like that for myself.

Why? Why should the government enforce that kind of morality? Cheating isnt illegal and you wouldnt want to live in the kind of place that would enforce such things. I dont want the government in my bedroom...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
