My partner's grandfather remarried quite soon (maybe 1.5 years) after his wife died but he was the same - very doting and did everything for her for years. Near the end he would barely leave home in case anything happened to her. I don't feel like him moving on was a bad thing, he could get out and be social again and you could see he missed it. He was true to his wife and marriage vows. And knowing she was dying for several years would have prepared him.
