Or you can file to have your payments reduced based on a change in income and have it recalculated. At least, that's how it works in WI. The court could care less about genuine reasons if there's no attempt to prove them. But it all depends on the OP's state.

These are two separate issues. Refused court-ordered visitation: he could file for contempt of court. Inability to pay child support: he could file to reduce child support payments. Two separate actions on the same case, would probably be seen by a judge at the same time and decided simultaneously. At least in WI you could file these on your own, no lawyer needed.
