There aren't many solutions at all because their female equivalents don't want them either. These men are expected to withdraw quietly and it doesn't matter what they do or where they go as long as they don't bother or hinder uninterested women in any way. Thanks for the insight, I hadn't seen it explained that way. I'm as nihilistic and cynical as anyone, but I still think there's something to be said for "trying", even if they won't get there.

It seems like the solutions are out of their hands, like people born into poverty, with debilitating conditions, etc. I'm not sure what the solutions are or where they would come from.

I see what you mean. I suppose I'm getting out of PPD territory, but if they won't get fulfillment from intimate relationships and they know it, should they try?

I agree they may never be viscerally attractive to young (or old) women, but where does that leave them? I guess I'm asking what the end game is for these guys. Make as much money as possible and get laid? Leave the dating pool and attempt to be happy outside of it?

Interesting, I hope to see some more info and discussions on this topic here. This is the territory where men who genuinely want some help and insight can find it.

I guess we're back to maximizing what you got. I also wonder what the real percentage of completely "un-dateable" men is. Like men who will never have any success no matter what they do or how much effort they put in to their attractiveness or lives. Reading this sub you'd think it's around 50%

I agree, most guys won't get what they feel they deserve. Or they won't get what they could get if only ________. Life is unfair that way. I feel like guys on this sub are just mopey and defeatist which obviously gets no one wet.

There are many things a man can change, so why focus on what can't be changed?

I agree, an equal and mutually beneficial relationship should work like that. Maybe opening up to bros can be a bridge to opening up with a partner in some way.

I get what you're saying, but what about support within a relationship? They are supposedly the closest person to one another. Imagine a wife crying to her husband and receiving comfort from him. That's totally normal. Switched around it's almost unacceptable.

Media, now social media, sets the bar. Standards are sky high for men, women, children, pets, hobbies, literally anything that can be done by humans is being shared and compared.

I sure as hell would never share with a modern woman anything that would make me look weak unless I wanted to end the relationship anyway. Absolutely. I'm all for honesty and openness, but some things are better kept under wraps. The only acceptable vulnerabilities are romantic and chivalrous.

There definitely were signs, but I saw them in hindsight. It's easy to overlook or explain away certain red flags when things are going great. I didn't see any pettiness toward others, but indifference toward my goals and desires. At the time I didn't even notice that it was happening, but looking back it's so obvious. I'm definitely more wary and observant now. It was a good lesson to learn.

It's so hard to tell at what point someone will jump ship, especially when you have feelings for eachother. My ex and I were going great, all the usual emotions and squishy stuff, couldn't have been happier. I decided to leave my job and focus on my education, and was feeling a bit lost and in need of emotional support. I decided to be vulnerable and tell her this. She was gone quick, "didn't want to be in a relationship." I supported her with her issues the whole time, but as soon as i needed s…

I agree that being attractive it's not everything it's cracked up to be. I was nerdy and bullied mercilessly until I started working out around age 17. By age 20 I was built, got called handsome often, had a reputation for my physique, etc. I remained extremely bitter for about 10 years like OP stated, always thinking, "you didn't want me then, now all of a sudden everyone wants a piece?!" I got the immediate attention that comes with being handsome, grooming well, wearing clothes that fit, but …

I think they are trying to say that bodybuilders are strong in a gym setting. Obviously this makes them strong outside the gym as their muscles leave with them, but not in a "functional" way. Anecdote: I worked in heavy construction for years, and the bodybuilder/gym rat types were no "stronger" than the skinny guys, youngsters, or anyone else; they could do no more physical work than non-bodybuilders. They could certainly bench or curl more, but ask them to carry a heavy item across a site or u…

You're dismissing everything that was said without realizing the reason why these are issues for women. Men are much physically stronger and able to have their way with women. Many of your responses are just "brush it off" or "we're fighting" or "don't go back there" or "ignore them". Those are really not an option when you can be cornered and overpowered within seconds. So you've made a false association between "men" and your past experiences with certain men? Yup, you're definitely a woman al…

I think there's a grey area here that is being missed. Maybe your coworker made the decision to cheat on her BF that day. Maybe she was extremely horny at lunch and said "fuck it". Maybe she and her BF were fighting and she felt, right then, that it didn't matter. Maybe the guy was pushy and coerced her in some way. Maybe she regrets it, maybe not. She always had agency and made the decisions that led to her cheating, but her life at that time certainly affected those choices. Who knows if she w…

I do agree with both of you. It doesn't have to be one or the other; either they're always swept away and intoxicated in the moment or they are sober, calculating, and transactional. Women can intentionally choose to have sex, or they can go along with the environment and see what happens. Or anything in between.

women will agree to have sex ASAP with really hot guys they match with on Tinder, dead sober, who do nothing to create a fun carefree environment Human being wants sex with a hot human being, is that surprising to you? Hookup apps are for facilitating sex. Yes it's easy for females, but wouldn't you if it was that easy?

I think the part where he said " If I gotta be a selfish cocky prick to get by then whatevs" could be seen as taking it out on others. We all get bitter and vengeful after certain experiences, and sometimes that vengeance can be a motivator, but it's important to drop the angst at some point. TRP can lead to "taking it out on others", but not necessarily. edit: TRP advice obviously doesn't advocate bitterness and nihilism, but I think we can see how it could lead a certain type of person in that…
