The persecution complexYeah that part just seemed wrong to me, I couldn't see where the 98k came from and forced envelopment wasn't even in the rape category in the study, so although we can use the numbers and compare them we can't just add them together. And yeah there just is no category for attempted forced envelopment in the 2010 study. My preference would be for forced envelopment to be included in the rape category so that we could compare the numbers more accurately, but oh well. You'll understand if I'm uncomfortable writing off the lifetime stats completely based on a separate study that I can't see, but I take your point that this could be due to generational differences and that perhaps the past 12-month stats are more reflective of the current position. It's also important to note that under-18s were not surveyed, so the 12-month period presumably excludes the abuse of under-17s. To be fair I just looked up the definition of aggravated assault and realised that it's more severe than assault (I'm not from the US). Do note though that in that part of the comment I meant male and female victims of all types of violent crime. I was thinking along the lines of 'how can you compare someone shoving you to rape and why is that a relevant thing to say?'. IIRC the problem is often that they ask men and women completely different questions, or go off reported/convicted crime statistics. The persecution complexHere's my attempt at a review of the figures in picture 2: These numbers represent estimated victims in the US over the 12-month period prior to the survey. 9,086 and 7,421 men took part in the survey in 2010. Note that it's the number of victims, not the number of occurrences. So if someone was a victim of 5 attempted rapes, 3 completed rapes and 8 alcohol-induced rapes they would count for 1.
